8614 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed me, in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "It will not come to you except suddenly," meaning its standing (occurrence) will surprise them; it will come to them while they are in a state of negligence.
His statement, the Exalted: "They ask you as if you are familiar with it"
8615 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His statement: "As if you are familiar with it," he says: As if you are knowledgeable about it, meaning you do not know it.
8616 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: regarding His statement: "They ask you as if you are familiar with it," he says: Indulgent towards it, meaning: it is as if their questioning you pleases you; "Say: Its knowledge is only with Allah."
8617 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed me, in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas: regarding His statement: "They ask you as if you are familiar with it," he says: As if there is affection between you and them, as if you are a friend to them.
8618 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His statement: "As if you are familiar with it," meaning: You have been importuned with questions about it until you have come to know it.
8619 - My father narrated to us, Mansur ibn Muzahim told us, Abu Sa'id al-Mu'addib told us, from Khusayf, from Mujahid, regarding His statement: "They ask you as if you are familiar with it," he said: As if you are familiar with them, desiring that they ask you about it, meaning the Hour.
8620 - 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to me, 'Umar—meaning Ibn Abi Qays—told us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His statement: "They ask you as if you are familiar with it," he said: We have come to you and investigated [the matter] with you.
8621 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid told us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, regarding "They ask you as if you are familiar with it," meaning: Familiar with them. The Quraysh said that: "O Muhammad, disclose or reveal to us the knowledge of the Hour, as [is the case] between us and you, due to our kinship to you."
