His statement, the Exalted: "If You grant us a righteous child."

8647 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Mahmud ibn 'Ubayd told us, from Isma'il, from Abu Salih, regarding "If You grant us a righteous child," he said: We feared that it might be a beast. Similar to this was narrated from Abu al-Buhturi.

8648 - Al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn Yaman told us, from Sufyan, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, he said: We feared that it might not be a human. Similar to this was narrated from Abu Malik.

8649 - My father narrated to us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman told us, Mihran ibn Abi 'Umar al-Razi told us, from Ibn Abi Khalid, from Abu Salih regarding this verse, "If You grant us a righteous child," he said: We feared it might be a beast, so they both said: "If You grant us a righteous (human) child."

8650 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la al-San'ani told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, he said: And al-Hasan said regarding "If You grant us a righteous child," he said: A boy.

8651 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Muhammad told us, 'Abd al-Wahid told us, Salim ibn Abi Hafsah told us, he said: I heard Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding this verse, "If You grant us a righteous child," [meaning] similar to our own creation, "We will certainly be among the thankful." Similar to the statement of Sa'id ibn Jubayr was narrated from al-Suddi.

His statement, the Exalted: "We will certainly be among the thankful."

8652 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Abu 'Umar al-Hawdi told us, Khalid ibn 'Abd Allah told us, from 'Ata', from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding this verse, meaning His statement, "If You grant us a righteous child, we will certainly be among the thankful," he said: Adam did not commit shirk (polytheism); he was merely struck [by temptation] for the sake of those who came after him.

His statement, the Exalted: "But when He gave them a righteous child, they attributed partners to Him in what He had given them."

8653 - My father narrated to us, Abu al-Jamahir told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir informed us, from 'Uqbah, from Qatadah, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, he said: When Hawwa' became pregnant, Satan came to her and said: "Will you obey me so that your child remains safe for you? Name him 'Abd al-Harith (Servant of the Harith/Satan)." She did not do so, and she gave birth, and the child died. Then she became pregnant again, and he said the same thing to her, and she did not do so. Then she became pregnant for the third time, and he came to her and said: "If you obey me, he will be safe, otherwise it will be a beast." He frightened them, so they obeyed him.
