His statement, the Exalted: "And if you call them to guidance..."

8671 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding His statement: "And if you call them to guidance, they do not hear your call."

His statement, the Exalted: "And you see them looking at you."

8672 - And by the same chain reaching to al-Suddi regarding His statement: "And you see them looking at you, but they do not see"—he said: These are the polytheists.

His statement, the Exalted: "But they do not see."

8673 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah told us, Shibl told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "...looking at you, but they do not see"—[meaning] what you are calling them to of guidance.

His statement, the Exalted: "Take what is given freely (al-'afw)."

[The First Aspect]

8674 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, Abu Mu'awiyah told us, Hisham ibn 'Urwah told us, from Wahb ibn Kaysan, he said: I heard 'Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr on the pulpit saying: "Take what is given freely, enjoin what is right, and turn away from the ignorant." By Allah, He did not command these two [virtues] except that they be taken from people's characters. By Allah, I shall certainly take them from them as long as I accompany them.

8675 - My father narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Muhammad al-Naqid told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Tufawi Abu al-Mundhir told us, from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father, from Ibn 'Umar regarding His statement: "Take what is given freely"—he said: Allah commanded His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to take what is given freely from people's characters.

8676 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Ja'far al-Raqqi told us, 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak told us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from al-Minhal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "Take what is given freely"—he said: The surplus (al-fadl).

8677 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Usamah told us, Shibl told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His statement: "Take what is given freely"—Take what is given freely from the characters and deeds of people without spying (tajsis).
