His statement, the Exalted: "Then seek refuge in Allah."
8424 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl told us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, from 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he used to say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from Satan, from his hamz (stifling), his nafth (blowing/poetry), and his nafk (puffing/arrogance)." He said: His hamz is the soul being stifled (al-mutah), his nafth is poetry, and his nafk is arrogance (1).
8691 - Hashim ibn Khalid ibn Abi Jamil al-Dimashqi informed me in what he wrote to me, he said: I heard Abu Sulayman al-Darani saying: "Were it not that Allah, Blessed and Exalted, commanded us to seek refuge from Satan, I would never have sought refuge from him, for he possesses neither harm nor benefit." And Abu Sulayman would not mention Satan before it, in accordance with the statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
His statement, the Exalted: "Indeed, He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing."
8692 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj told us, Salamah told us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told us: "Indeed, He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing," meaning: All-Hearing of what they say, All-Knowing of what they conceal.
His statement, the Exalted: "Indeed, those who are righteous..."
8693 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi told us, Hajjaj reported from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid, regarding His statement: "Indeed, those who are righteous," he said: They are the believers.
His statement, the Exalted: "...when an impulse from Satan touches them..."

8694 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His statement: "Indeed, those who are righteous, when an impulse (ta'if) from Satan touches them, they remember"—and the ta'if is the lammah (touch/affliction) from Satan. "They remember, and then they have insight."

8695 - Abu 'Abd Allah ibn Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn 'Umar reported, al-Hakam ibn Aban told us, from 'Ikrimah regarding His statement: "Indeed, those who are righteous, when an impulse from Satan touches them," Ibn 'Abbas said: "The ta'if is anger." It was also narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, and 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam in a similar manner.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ
٨٤٢٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ مِنْ هَمْزِهِ وَنَفْثِهِ وَنَفْخِهِ، قَالَ: فَهَمْزُهُ الْمُوتَةُ، وَنَفْثُهُ الشِّعْرُ، وَنَفْخُهُ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ «١» .
٨٦٩١ - أَخْبَرَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَبِي جَمِيلٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سُلَيْمَانَ الدَّارَانِيِّ يَقُولُ: لَوْلا أَنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَمَرَنَا بِالتَّعَوُّذِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ مَا تَعَوَّذْتُ مِنْهُ أَبَدًا لأَنَّهُ لَا يَمْلِكُ ضَرًّا وَلا نَفْعًا، وَكَانَ أَبُو سُلَيْمَانَ لَا يَذْكُرُ قَبْلَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ اتِّبَاعًا لِقَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
٨٦٩٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو زُنَيْجٌ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ ثنا محمد ابن إِسْحَاقَ: إِنَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ أَيْ سَمِيعٌ مَا يَقُولُونَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يُخْفُونَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّقُوا
٨٦٩٣ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْهَرَوِيُّ أَنْبَأَ حَجَّاجٌ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّقُوا قَالَ: هُمُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِذَا مَسَّهُمْ طائف من الشيطان

٨٦٩٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّقُوا إِذَا مَسَّهُمْ طَائِفٌ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ تَذَكَّرُوا وَالطَّائِفُ اللَّمَّةُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ تَذْكُرُوا فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْصِرُونَ

٨٦٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ الطِّهْرَانِيُّ أَنْبَأَ حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، ثنا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ أَبَانَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّقُوا إِذَا مَسَّهُمْ طَائِفٌ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ الطَّائِفُ: الْغَضَبُ. وَرُوِيَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَمُجَاهِدٍ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زيد ابن أسلم نحو ذلك.
