'...We provide for you and for them. And do not approach immoralities—what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason.'

He finished the three verses, then said: 'Whoever fulfills them, Allah will reward him, and whoever falls short of them, if Allah catches him in this world, it is a punishment. And whoever delays him until the Hereafter, then his affair is with Allah; if He wills, He may punish him, and if He wills, He may forgive him.'(1)

8078 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed us, in what he wrote to me, that my father told me, my uncle told me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: 'The will of Allah: the debt of Allah.'

His saying the Exalted: 'And do not approach the wealth of the orphan.'

[The First Aspect]

8079 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Yahya ibn Adam told us, Isra'il told us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: 'When "And do not approach the wealth of the orphan except in the way that is best" was revealed, they separated the wealth of the orphans until the food began to spoil and the meat began to rot. They mentioned that to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, so it was revealed: "And if you mix your affairs with theirs, they are your brothers. And Allah knows the corrupter from the reformer."(2) He said: So they mixed their affairs with theirs.'

8080 - Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani told me, Hafs ibn 'Umar al-'Adani told us, al-Hakam ibn Aban told us, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His saying: 'And do not approach the wealth of the orphan except in the way that is best'—he said: 'It is not for the guardian of the orphan to wear a cap or a turban from his wealth, but rather his hand is with his hand.'

The Second Aspect:

8081 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, Hafs told us, from Fudayl ibn Marzuq, from 'Atiyyah regarding: 'And do not approach the wealth of the orphan except in the way that is best,' he said: 'Seeking trade in it and profit in it.'

8082 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amir ibn Zurarah told us, Sharik told us, from Abu Ishaq, regarding His saying: 'And do not approach the wealth of the orphan except in the way that is best'—he said: 'He should not buy anything from it,' I believe he meant the executor.

His saying: 'Except in the way that is best.'
