The third aspect:

8773 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, saying: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah: "And obey Allah and His Messenger if you are believers," [he said]: Submit to Allah and His Messenger; they judge concerning it as they wish and place it where they desire.

His saying, the Almighty: "If you are believers"

8774 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding his saying: "Believers," he said: Believing (tasdiqin).

His saying, the Almighty: "The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned"

8775 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-Suddi, regarding the saying of Allah: "Those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful," he said: The one who, when Allah is mentioned in the presence of a matter, his heart becomes fearful.

His saying, the Almighty: "Their hearts become fearful"

[The first aspect]

8776 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful," he said: They become soft. It was narrated from Mujahid and Qatadah similar to that.

The second aspect:

8777 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful," he said: The hypocrites—nothing from the remembrance of Allah enters their hearts when fulfilling His obligations. They do not believe in anything of the signs of Allah, nor do they rely upon Allah, nor do they pray when they are away, nor do they pay the zakah on their wealth. So Allah informed that they are not believers. Then He described the believers and said: "The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful," [meaning] they fulfill His obligations.

8778 - My father narrated to us, 'Abdah ibn Sulayman al-Marwazi narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak informed us, Sufyan informed us, he said: I heard al-Suddi saying regarding His saying: "The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful," he said: It is a man who intends to commit an injustice, or he said: intends to commit a sin, so it is said to him: Fear Allah, then his heart becomes fearful.
