His saying, the Almighty: 'And do not turn away from Him while you are hearing.'
8931 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr narrated to me, from 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, regarding 'And do not turn away from Him while you are hearing,' i.e.: Do not disobey His command while you are listening.
His saying, the Almighty: 'And do not be like those who said, "We hear."
8932 - And by the same chain, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, regarding 'And do not be like those who said, "We hear," while they do not hear,' i.e.: Like the hypocrites who show obedience to Him while concealing disobedience to Him in their hearts.
His saying, the Almighty: 'While they do not hear.'
8933 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: 'While they do not hear,' [meaning] disobedient.
His saying, the Almighty: 'Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah.'
8934 - Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Salih narrated to us, 'Anbasah ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, Abu 'Uthman ibn Sanah al-Khuza'i al-Ka'bi, who was from the people of Damascus, narrated to me that he met with Ali ibn Abi Talib—may Allah be pleased with him—and was with him. He took him aside one day while he was speaking to us about when this verse was revealed, which Allah stated: 'Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah.' Then he said: 'This verse was revealed concerning so-and-so and companions of his.'
8935 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, Ibn Zayd reported regarding His saying: 'Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah.' He said: 'The living creatures (al-dawab) are the creation.' And he recited: 'If Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature' and 'And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision.' He said: 'This enters into that.'
His saying, the Almighty: 'The deaf.'
8936 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid(1), who said: Ibn Abbas used to say: 'The deaf, the dumb who do not reason,' are a group from the Banu 'Abd al-Dar.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلا تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ
٨٩٣١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا سَلَمَةُ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ وَلا تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ أَيْ: لَا تُخَالِفُوا أَمَرَهُ وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا
٨٩٣٢ - وَبِهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ وَلا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لا يَسْمَعُونَ أَيْ: كَالْمُنَافِقِينَ الَّذِينَ يَظْهَرُونَ لَهُ بِالطَّاعَةِ، وَيُسِرِّونَ لَهُ الْمَعْصِيَةَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى وَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ
٨٩٣٣ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا شَبَابَةُ ثنا وَرْقَاءُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: وَهُمْ لا يسمعون عَاصِينَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنَّ شَرَّ الدَّوَابِّ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ
٨٩٣٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا عَنْبَسَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُثْمَانَ بْنُ سَنَةٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ الْكَعْبِيُّ وَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ دِمَشْقَ أَنَّهُ لَحِقَ بِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَهُ فَخَلا بِهِ يَوْمًا وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُنَا فِيمَا أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ الَّتِي قَالَ اللَّهُ: إِنَّ شَرَّ الدَّوَابِّ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ أُنْزِلَتْ فِي فُلانٍ وَأَصْحَابٍ لَهُ.
٨٩٣٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ- فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ- ثنا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ أَنْبَأَ ابْنُ زَيْدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: إِنَّ شَرَّ الدَّوَابِّ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ قَالَ: الدَّوَابُّ: الْخَلْقُ، وَقَرَأَ وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذِ اللَّهُ النَّاسَ بِمَا كَسَبُوا مَا تَرَكَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ وَمَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ فِي الأَرْضِ إِلا عَلَى اللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا قَالَ: هَذَا يَدْخُلُ فِي هَذَا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: الصُّمُّ
٨٩٣٦ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا شَبَابَةُ ثنا وَرْقَاءُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ «١» قَالَ: كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: الصُّمُّ الْبُكْمُ الَّذِينَ لا يَعْقِلُونَ نفر من بني عبد الدار.
