His saying, the Almighty: 'And if He had made them hear.'
8945 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Asbagh narrated to me, Ibn Zayd (Abd al-Rahman) reported, regarding His saying: 'And if He had made them hear,' [meaning] after He knows that there is no good in them, it would not have benefited them after it becomes evident to Him that they would not benefit from it.
His saying, the Almighty: 'They would have turned away, while they were refusing.'
8946 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr narrated to me, from 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, regarding 'And if He had made them hear, they would have turned away, while they were refusing; and if they had gone out with you, they would have turned away while they were refusing,' they would not have fulfilled for you any of the terms upon which they departed.
His saying, the Almighty: 'Respond to Allah and to the Messenger.'
8947 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Khubayb ibn Abd al-Rahman, who said: I heard Hafs ibn 'Asim narrating from Abu Sa'id ibn al-Mu'alla that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was in the mosque while I was praying. He called me, so I prayed, then came to him. He said: 'What prevented you from responding when I called you? Did you not hear Allah, the Almighty, say: "O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life"?'
His saying, the Almighty: 'When he calls you.'
8948 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, from 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, regarding 'O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life,' i.e., the war through which Allah honored you after humiliation, strengthened you after weakness, and protected you from your enemy after they had overpowered you.
His saying, the Almighty: 'To that which gives you life.'
[First interpretation]
