destruction through it, so the son of Adam must inevitably commit something short of that, and the destructive sins which would necessitate for him the abode of the wicked shall not enter his heart. And He intervenes between the disbeliever and his obedience, so he shall not attain of His obedience anything that would necessitate the good which His allies attain. This was according to the foreknowledge to which the command of Allah ends and upon which the deeds of the servants rest.
8956 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported, Warqa' reported, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: 'Intervenes between a man and his heart,' [he said]: Until He leaves him unable to reason.
8957 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah reported, from Shibl, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: Until He leaves him unable to reason.
It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, 'Ikrimah, Abu Salih, Mujahid, and al-Suddi that they said: He intervenes between the believer and disbelieving, and between the disbeliever and believing.
Al-Dahhak, 'Atiyyah, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan said: [He intervenes] between the disbeliever and his obedience, and between the believer and his disobedience.
8958 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman reported, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far reported, from his father, from al-Rabi', regarding His saying: 'And know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart,' he said: His knowledge intervenes between a man and his heart.
His saying, the Almighty: 'And that unto Him you shall be gathered.'
8959 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqiq reported, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: 'And that unto Him you shall be gathered,' meaning: unto Him you shall return.
His saying, the Almighty: 'And fear a trial.'

8960 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Ju'fi reported, al-Husayn al-Ju'fi reported, from Isra'il ibn Musa, from al-Hasan, he said: Al-Zubayr recited: 'And fear a trial that will not strike those who have done wrong among you exclusively,' and said: It is the affliction and the matter that is to come.
8961 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Asbagh informed us, from Ibn Zayd, regarding the saying of Allah: 'And fear a trial that will not strike those who have done wrong among you exclusively,' he said: The trial is misguidance.
بِهَا الْهَلَكَةَ، فَلا بُدَّ لابْنِ آدَمَ أَنْ يُصِيبَ دُونَ ذَلِكَ، وَلا يَدْخُلُ عَلَى قَلْبِهِ الْمُوبِقَاتُ الَّتِي يَسْتَوْجِبُ بِهَا دَارَ الْفَاسِقِينَ، وَيَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْكَافِرِ وَبَيْنَ طَاعَتِهِ فَلا يُصِيبُ مِنْ طَاعَتِهِ مَا يَسْتَوْجِبُ مَا يُصِيبُ أَولِيَاءَهُ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ شَيْئًا وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ فِي الْعِلْمِ السَّابِقِ الَّذِي يَنْتَهِي إِلَيْهِ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ وَتَسْتَقِرُّ عِنْدَهُ أَعْمَالُ الْعِبَادِ.
٨٩٥٦ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ ثنا شَبَابَةُ ثنا وَرْقَاءُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ حَتَّى يَتْرُكَهُ لَا يَعْقِلُ.
٨٩٥٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ عَنْ شِبْلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ: حَتَّى يَتْرُكَهُ لَا يَعْقِلُ
وَرُوِيَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَعِكْرِمَةَ وَأَبِي صَالِحٍ وَمُجَاهِدٍ وَالسُّدِّيِّ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا: يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمُؤْمِنِ أَنْ يَكْفُرَ وَبَيْنَ الْكَافِرِ أَنْ يُؤْمِنَ.
وَقَالَ الضَّحَّاكُ وَعَطِيَّةُ وَمُقَاتِلُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ: بَيْنَ الْكَافِرِ وَبَيْنَ طَاعَتِهِ، وَبَيْنَ الْمُؤْمِنِ وَمَعْصِيَتِهِ.
٨٩٥٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ قَالَ: عِلْمُهُ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَأَنَّهُ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ
٨٩٥٩ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ مُوسَى ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ وَأَنَّهُ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ يَعْنِي: إِلَيْهِ تَرْجِعُونَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَاتَّقُوا فِتْنَةً

٨٩٦٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْجُعْفِيُّ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ الْجُعْفِيُّ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: قَرَأَ الزُّبَيْرُ وَاتَّقُوا فِتْنَةً لا تُصِيبَنَّ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا قَالَ: الْبَلاءُ وَالأَمْرُ الَّذِي هُوَ كَائِنٌ.
٨٩٦١ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ- فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ- أَنْبَأَ أَصْبَغُ عَنِ ابْنِ زَيْدٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَاتَّقُوا فِتْنَةً لَا تُصِيبَنَّ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْكُمْ خَاصَّةً قَالَ: الْفِتْنَةُ:
