8981 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh reported, Ibn Zayd reported, regarding the saying of Allah: "And betray your trusts," he said: Your trusts are your religion.
The second interpretation:
8982 - My father narrated to us, al-Walid reported, Maslamah ibn 'Ali reported, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, regarding His saying: "O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger and betray your trusts," he said: This is the failure [to provide] the weapons in the military expeditions.
His saying, the Almighty: "And while you know [it]."
8983 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Asbagh reported, Zayd reported, regarding the saying of Allah: "And betray your trusts while you know [it]," he said: The hypocrites have done that, while they know that they are disbelievers who manifest faith.
His saying, the Almighty: "And know that your properties and your children are a test."
8984 - My father narrated to us, Muqatil ibn Muhammad reported, Waki' reported, from al-Mas'udi, from al-Qasim, who said: 'Abd Allah said: There is no one among you who is not surrounded by a test, because Allah the Almighty says: "Your properties and your children are a test." So whoever among you seeks refuge, let him seek refuge with Allah from the misleading trials.
8985 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Asbagh reported, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam reported, regarding the saying of Allah: "Your properties and your children are a test," he said: As a trial for them, and he recited the saying of Allah: "And We test you with evil and with good as a trial; and to Us you will be returned."
His saying, the Almighty: "And that Allah has with Him a great reward."
8986 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Numayr reported, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar reported, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from 'Ali ibn Zayd, from Abu 'Uthman, from Abu Hurayrah, "a great reward," he said: Paradise. It was narrated from al-Hasan, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, 'Ikrimah, al-Dahhak, and Qatadah similar to that.
8987 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported, Ibn Lahi'ah reported, 'Atiyyah ibn Dinar reported, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "a great reward," meaning: an abundant compensation.
