And through the same chain, from Ibn Abbas, regarding "and the near of kin, the orphans, the needy, and the wayfarer," [he said]: The fourth quarter of the one-fifth is for the wayfarers, and they are the poor guests who descend upon the Muslims.

His saying, the Almighty: "If you have believed in Allah"

9099 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding his saying: "If you have believed in Allah," he says: Affirm My decree.

His saying, the Almighty: "And what We sent down upon Our servant"

9100 - And through the same chain, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding "And what We sent down upon Our servant," he says: And what I sent down upon Muhammad (peace be upon him) concerning the division [of the spoils].

His saying, the Almighty: "The Day of Criterion"

[The First Aspect]

9101 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas regarding his saying: "And what We sent down upon Our servant on the Day of Criterion," [he said]: The day of Badr; Allah distinguished in it between the truth and falsehood. It was narrated from Mujahid, Miqsam, Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan similarly.

The Second Aspect:

9102 - Ali ibn al-Husayn said: I read to Abu Mus'ab, Hatim ibn Isma'il narrated to us, from Mus'ab ibn Thabit, Ata' ibn Dinar or Rayyan informed me, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) was born on Monday, and it is the Day of Criterion.

His saying, the Almighty: "The day the two armies met"

9103 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd ibn Atiyyah informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to us, my paternal uncle narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from Abdullah ibn Abbas, regarding his saying: "The day the two armies met," he says: The day of Badr, and Badr is between Makkah and Madinah.
