Volume 5 · Page 313His saying (the Almighty): 'And Allah is over all things competent'

Translation · EN

9104 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding his saying: "The day the two armies met," [he means] He gathered the believers and He gathered the polytheists.

His saying, the Almighty: "And Allah is over all things capable"

9105 - Muhammad ibn al-Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq regarding: "Over all things capable," meaning: Allah is indeed capable of whatever He wills for His servants, whether it be retribution or pardon.

His saying, the Almighty: "When you were on the near side of the valley"

9106 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn Abbas, regarding his saying: "When you were on the near side of the valley," he said: The bank of the valley. And it was narrated from Qatadah similarly.

9107 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq: "When you were on the near side of the valley," [that is] towards Madinah.

His saying, the Almighty: "And they were on the farther side"

9108 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abd al-A'la al-San'ani narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Thawr informed us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah: "And they were on the farther side," [meaning] they were on the edge of the farther valley.

9109 - Muhammad ibn al-Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Yahya ibn Abbad ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, from his father: "And they were on the farther side," [meaning] the valley towards Makkah.

His saying, the Almighty: "And the caravan was lower than you"

9110 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn Abbas: "And the caravan was lower than you," he said: The caravan [is] Abu Sufyan.

9111 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Yahya ibn Abbad ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, from his father: "And the caravan was lower than you," meaning: Abu Sufyan and others, and it was lower than that towards the coast.
