[His saying, the Almighty: "And indeed, Allah is Hearing, Knowing."]

His saying, the Almighty: "When He showed them to you."

9117 - Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn Umar informed us, al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from Ikrimah, [regarding] "When He showed them to you in your dream as few," the verse. He said: He incited [conflict] between them.

9118 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Thawr informed us, from Ma'mar, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, [regarding] "When He showed them to you in your dream as few," he said: He showed them to him in his dream as few, so the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, informed his companions of that, and it was a source of steadfastness for them.

9119 - My father narrated to us, Yusuf ibn Musa al-Tustari narrated to us, Abu Qutaybah narrated to us, from Sahl al-Sarraj, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "When He showed them to you in your dream as few," he said: [He showed them] to your eye.

His saying, the Almighty: "And if He had shown them to you as many, you would have become cowardly."

9120 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Umar al-Adani narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, [regarding] His saying: "And if He had shown them to you as many, you would have become cowardly," he says: You yourself would have become cowardly, so your companions would have seen the cowardice on your face, and they would have become cowardly.

9121 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us—in what he wrote to me—, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marrudhi narrated to us, Shayban ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And if He had shown them to you as many, you would have become cowardly," he says: You would have become timid.

His saying, the Almighty: "And you would have disputed over the matter."

9122 - And by the same [chain] from Qatadah, [regarding] His saying: "And you would have disputed over the matter," he said: You would have disagreed.

His saying, the Almighty: "But Allah saved [the situation]."

9123 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd ibn Atiyyah informed us—in what he wrote to me—, my father narrated to us, my uncle narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, from Abd Allah ibn Abbas, [regarding] His saying: "But Allah saved [the situation]," he says: He saved their situation for them until He caused them to prevail over their enemy.
