8132 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, al-‘Abbas informed us, Yazid told us, Sa‘id told us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Or lest you should say, 'If only the Scripture had been sent down to us, we would have been better guided than them,'" and this is the saying of the disbelievers of the Arabs.

His saying: "For there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord," the verse.

[8133] Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us, in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "For there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord," he says: "There has come to you a clear proof—an eloquent Arabic language—since you did not know the study of the two sects."

8134 - My father told us, Abu Salih—the scribe of al-Layth—told us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih told me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "And turned away from it," he says: "He turned away from it." It was narrated from Mujahid, al-Suddi, and ‘Ata’ al-Khurasani something similar.

His saying: "We will recompense those who turn away from Our verses with a severe punishment," the verse.

8136 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and ‘Uthman told us, they both said: Mu‘awiyah ibn Hisham told us, Sufyan al-Thawri told us, from al-A‘mash, from Muslim, from Masruq, from ‘Abdullah: "Do they wait for anything other than that the angels should come to them?" He said: "At the time of death." It was narrated from Mujahid and al-Suddi something similar.
