9185 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Asbagh narrated to us, Ibn Zayd informed us regarding His saying: "then disperse by them those behind them," he said: Terrify them by them, just as you do with these [the others]. He recited: "And others besides them whom you do not know; Allah knows them."
His saying, the Almighty: "Those behind them."
9186 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "those behind them," he said: Those who are behind them.

[The First Aspect]
9187 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "then disperse by them those behind them," he means: Make them an example (nakkil) to those after them. It was narrated from al-Hasan, al-Dahhak, and al-Suddi something similar.
The Second Aspect:
9188 - Muhammad ibn Yahya informed us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "then disperse by them those behind them," he says: Those other than them among the people.
The Third Aspect:
9189 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi' narrated to us, Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, regarding "then disperse by them those behind them," he says: Make them an example to those behind them, meaning: all of the Arabs.
His saying, the Almighty: "That they might be reminded."
9190 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us—in what he wrote to me—Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding "That they might be reminded," he says: That they might be wary of being punished, so that the like of that might be done to them.
9191 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, Yahya ibn 'Abbad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, from his father, regarding "That they might be reminded," [he said]: That they might learn a lesson.
٩١٨٥ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَصْبَغُ أنا ابْنُ زَيْدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ فَشَرِّدْ بِهِمْ مَنْ خَلْفَهُمْ قَالَ: أَخِفْهُمْ بِهِمْ، كَمَا تَصْنَعُ بِهَؤُلاءِ وَقَرَأَ: وَآخَرِينَ مِنْ دُونِهِمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَهُمُ اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُهُمْ

٩١٨٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا مِنْجَابٌ أَنْبَأَ بِشْرٌ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي رَوْقٍ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: مَنْ خَلْفَهُمْ قَالَ: الَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُمْ.

٩١٨٧ - حدثنا أبي ثنا أبو صالح حدثني معاية بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: فَشَرِّدْ بِهِمْ مَنْ خَلْفَهُمْ يَعْنِي نَكِّلْ بِهِمْ مَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ. وَرُوِيَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَالضَّحَّاكِ وَالسُّدِّيِّ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.

٩١٨٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ثنا يَزِيدُ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: فَشَرِّدْ بِهِمْ مَنْ خَلْفَهُمْ يَقُولُ: مَنْ سِوَاهُمْ مِنَ النَّاسِ.
الْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٩١٨٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ثنا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ فَشَرِّدْ بِهِمْ مَنْ خَلْفَهُمْ يَقُولُ: نَكِّلْ بِهِمْ من ورائهم، يَعْنِي: الْعَرَبَ كُلَّهَا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَرُونَ
٩١٩٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُفَضَّلٍ ثنا أَسْبَاطُ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَرُونَ يَقُولُ: لَعَلَّهُمْ يَحْذَرُونَ أَنْ يُنَكَّثُوا، فَيَصْنَعَ بِهِمْ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.
٩١٩١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا سَلَمَةُ عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَرُونَ لعلهم يعقلون.
