His saying, the Almighty: "What you are able of power."

[The First Aspect]

9198 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Ibn Wahb informed us, 'Amr ibn al-Harith informed me that Abu 'Ali al-Hamdani—that is, Thumamah ibn Shufayy—narrated to him from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir al-Juhani, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying while he was on the pulpit: "And prepare for them what you are able of power. Indeed, power is archery," he said it three times.

The Second Aspect:

9199 - Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Shu'bah ibn Dinar, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His saying: "And prepare for them what you are able of power," he said: Fortresses.

The Third Aspect:

9200 - My father narrated to us, Yahya ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Jarir informed us, from Abu Sinan, from Layth, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And prepare for them what you are able of power," he said: Power is the stallions of horses. It was narrated from 'Ikrimah something similar.

The Fourth Aspect:

9201 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Juwayriyah al-'Anazi narrated to us, al-Awza'i narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Zuhri about the saying of Allah: "And prepare for them what you are able of power," he said: Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib said: Power is the horse up to the arrow and everything less than that.

It was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan that he said: Power is the weapon and whatever else is [part] of the power of Jihad.
It was narrated from al-Suddi, he said: The weapon.
It was narrated from Abu Sakhr Humayd ibn Ziyad that he said: Power is the equipment; prepare whatever equipment you are able for them.

9102 - 'Ali ibn Sahl al-Ramli informed us—in what he wrote to me—Damrah narrated to us, from Raja' ibn Abi Salamah, he said: A man met Mujahid while he was preparing to go out for a military expedition, and he had with him saddlebags (jawaliq), so Mujahid said: This also is from the power.

[His saying, the Almighty: "And tethering of horses."]

9103 - (*) Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Shu'bah ibn Dinar, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His saying: "And tethering of horses," he said: The females. It was narrated from Mujahid and 'Amr ibn Dinar something similar.

٩١٩٨ - حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى أَنْبَأَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيَّ يَعْنِي ثُمَامَةَ بْنَ شُفَيّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ أَلا إِنَّ الْقُوَّةَ الرَّمْيَ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا.

٩١٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الأَحْمَسِيُّ ثنا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُمْ مَا استطعتم من قوة قَالَ: الْحُصُونِ.

الْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:

٩٢٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ أنا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ قَالَ: الْقُوَّةُ: ذُكُورُ الْخَيْلِ.

وَرُوِيَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.

الْوَجْهُ الرَّابِعُ:

٩٢٠١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ جُوَيْرِيَةَ الْعَنَزِيُّ ثنا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ قَالَ: قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ: الْقُوَّةُ: الْفَرَسُ إِلَى السَّهْمِ فَمَا دُونَهُ.

- وَرُوِيَ عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: الْقُوَّةُ: السِّلاحُ، وَمَا سِوَاهُ مِنْ قُوَّةِ الْجِهَادِ

- وَرُوِيَ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: السِّلاحُ

- وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي صَخْرٍ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: الْقُوَّةُ: الْعِدَّةُ، إِعْدَادُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ لَهُمْ مِنْ عِدَّةٍ.

٩١٠٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ- فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ- ثنا ضَمْرَةُ عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ: لَقِيَ رَجُلٌ مُجَاهِدًا وَهُوَ يَتَجَهَّزُ إِلَى الْغَزْوِ وَمَعَهُ جَوَالِقُ، فَقَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ: وَهَذَا مِنَ الْقُوَّةِ.
