Translation · EN

His saying, the Almighty: "And if they incline"

9116 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim reported to us—in what he wrote to me—Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "And if they incline," he says: If they want peace, then desire it.

9117 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "And if they incline to peace," [they are] Qurayza.

His saying, the Almighty: "To peace"

[The First Aspect]

9118 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And if they incline to peace," he said: Obedience.

The Second Aspect:

9119 - My father narrated to us, Isma'il ibn Raja' al-Qurashi narrated to us, Ma'qil ibn 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Karim al-Jazari, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And if they incline to peace," he means: with the kasra [vowel under the sīn], then incline toward it; it is reconciliation.

9120 - Abu 'Amir Isma'il ibn 'Amr al-Himsi narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn al-'Ala' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Wahid ibn Maysarah narrated to us, Abu Hafs Mubashshir ibn 'Ubayd narrated to us, regarding His saying: "And if they incline to peace," he means: with the fatḥa [vowel over the sīn], meaning reconciliation.

It was narrated from 'Ata' al-Khurasani, Qatadah, and al-Thawri that they said: Reconciliation, without specifying the recitation.

9121 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj and 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' reported to us, from 'Abd Allah: "And if they incline to peace, then incline toward it"—the verse was abrogated by this verse: "Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day," up to His saying: "And they are humbled." It was narrated from Mujahid, 'Ikrimah, al-Hasan, Qatadah, Zayd ibn Aslam, and 'Ata' al-Khurasani similarly.

9122 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, Yahya ibn 'Abbad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to me, from his father, regarding His saying:
