Translation · EN

9135 - My father narrated to us, Yahya al-Himmani narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, Ya'qub al-Qummi narrated to us, from Ja'far ibn Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: When thirty-three men and six women had embraced Islam with the Prophet (peace be upon him), then 'Umar embraced Islam, and there was revealed: "O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allah and whoever follows you of the believers." A similar report was narrated from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib.

Second Perspective:

9136 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Hatim al-Zimmi narrated to us, Nu'aym ibn Hammad narrated to us, Abu Tumaylah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from al-Zuhri, regarding the saying of Allah: "Sufficient for you is Allah and whoever follows you of the believers," he said: It is said: It was revealed concerning the Ansar.

His saying, the Almighty: "O Prophet, urge the believers to battle"

9137 - My father narrated to us, al-Musayyab ibn Wadih narrated to us, Abu Ishaq al-Fazari narrated to us, from Abu Raja', who said: A man informed me, from Abu Sinan, regarding His saying: "O Prophet, urge the believers to battle," he said: Exhort them.

His saying, the Almighty: "If there are among you twenty steadfast, they will overcome two hundred"

9138 - Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' and Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la al-Misri narrated to us—and the wording is Ibn al-Muqri''s—both said: Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: When "If there are among you twenty steadfast, they will overcome two hundred" was revealed, it was made obligatory upon them that twenty should not flee from two hundred, and one should not flee from ten. Then He said: "Now, Allah has lightened [the burden] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred steadfast, they will overcome two hundred." It was then made obligatory upon them that one should not flee from two, and one hundred from two hundred; if he fled from three, he did not flee.

9139 - Ibn al-Muqri' narrated to us, he said: Sufyan said: Shubruma said: The command to do good and the prohibition of evil are the same.

9140 - Ishaq ibn Wahb al-'Allaf al-Wasiti narrated to us, 'Umar ibn Yunus al-Yamami narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas, who said: When this verse was revealed, it was burdensome to the Muslims, and they considered it a great matter that twenty should fight two hundred, and one hundred should fight a thousand. So Allah lightened it for them, and the following verse abrogated it: "Now, Allah has lightened [the burden] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred..."
