Asbat from al-Suddi: Regarding His saying: "Or earned in its faith good," he says: Earned in its affirmation good, a righteous deed. These are the people of the Qibla, and if a person was a believer but did not do good before that, then performed it after seeing the sign, it will not be accepted from him. But if he performed good before the sign, then performed good after the sign, it will be accepted from him.
8147 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali told us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: Regarding His saying: "Or earned in its faith good," he means: The Muslim who did not perform good in his faith and was persisting in major sins before the sign.
His saying, the Almighty: "Good."
8148 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us from al-Suddi: Regarding His saying: "Good," he said: A righteous deed.
His saying: "Say, 'Wait; indeed, we are waiting.'"
8149 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman told us, ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Ja‘far told us from his father from al-Rabi‘, meaning regarding His saying: "Say, 'Wait; indeed, we are waiting,'" He threatened them with His punishment, His chastisement, and His retribution.
His saying: "Indeed, those who have divided their religion..."
[The First Aspect]
8150 - Abu Badr ‘Abbad ibn al-Walid al-Ghubari told us, Muhammad ibn ‘Abbad al-Huna’i told us, Humayd ibn Mihran al-Maliki al-Kharrat told us, he said: I asked Abu Ghalib about this verse: "Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects" to the end of the verse. Abu Umamah told me from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), that they are the Khawarij.
8151 - Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak al-Mukharrimi told us, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, Sufyan told us from Layth from Tawus from Abu Hurayrah, regarding His saying: "Indeed, those who have divided their religion," he said: They are from this nation, or within this nation.
The Second Aspect:
8152 - My father told us, ‘Ali ibn Muhammad al-Tanafisi told us, Yahya ibn Adam told us, Zuhayr told us, Abu Ishaq told us, ‘Amr Dhu Mur told me that he heard ‘Ali while a man was reading to him the one in al-An‘am: "Divided (faraqqu) their religion." So ‘Ali said: "No, they did not divide (faraqqu) their religion, but rather they departed from (faraqu) their religion."
