His saying: "You are not with them in anything."
8160 - Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi told us, Shuja‘ ibn al-Walid told us, ‘Amr ibn Qays al-Mula’i told us from Murrah al-Tayyib: "Let a man fear that he might not be with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in anything." Then he recited this verse: "Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects, you are not with them in anything."
8161 - My father told us, Sahl ibn ‘Uthman told us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Idris told us from Malik ibn Mighwal from ‘Ali ibn al-Aqmar from Abu al-Ahwas, who said: He recited: "Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects, you are not with them in anything," and said: "Then he says: Their Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) is free of them."
8162 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed me in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us from al-Suddi: Regarding His saying: "You are not with them in anything," he says: He was not commanded to fight them, then it was abrogated, and he was commanded to fight them in Surat Bara’ah.
His saying, the Almighty: "Their affair is with Allah."
8163 - And by the same chain from al-Suddi: Regarding His saying: "Their affair is with Allah," he said: These are the Jews and the Christians.
His saying, the Almighty: "Whoever comes with a good deed."
8164 - ‘Umar and al-Awdi told us, Waki‘ told us from Sufyan from al-A‘mash from Shimr ibn ‘Atiyyah from a man from Taym from Abu Dharr, who said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, is 'La ilaha illa Allah' (there is no god but Allah) among the good deeds?" He said: "It is among the best of the good deeds."
8165 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj told us, Ibn Fudayl told us from al-Hasan ibn ‘Ubayd Allah from Jami‘ ibn Shaddad from al-Aswad ibn Hilal from ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ud, regarding His saying: "Whoever comes with a good deed," he said: "It is 'La ilaha illa Allah'." Similar views were narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas, Abu Hurayrah, ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, al-Hasan, ‘Ata’, Mujahid, Abu Salih Dhakwan, Muhammad ibn Ka‘b al-Qurazi, al-Nakha‘i, al-Dahhak, al-Zuhri, ‘Ikrimah, Zayd ibn Aslam, and Qatadah.
His saying, the Almighty: "Then for him is ten times like it."
8166 - Ahmad ibn Sinan told us, Abu Mu‘awiyah told us from ‘Asim al-Ahwal from Abu ‘Uthman from Abu Dharr—I think he attributed it to the Prophet (marfu‘)—he said: "Whoever fasts three days of every month, that is the fasting of a lifetime." Allah revealed in confirmation of this: "Whoever comes with a good deed, then for him is ten times like it."
