8191 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And has raised some of you above others," he says: "In provision."
8192 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali told us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim told us, from Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: His saying: "And has raised some of you above others in degrees," meaning: "In virtue and wealth."
His saying, the Almighty: "To test you."
8193 - And by the same chain from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: His saying: "To test you in what He has given you," he says: "To trial you, so He tests the wealthy and the poor, the noble and the humble, the free man and the slave."
His saying: "In what He has given you."
8194 - And by the same chain from Muqatil: "To test you in what He has given you," he says: "In what He has bestowed upon you."
His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; and indeed, He is Forgiving, Merciful."
8195 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr told us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah told me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar told me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr: His saying: "Forgiving," meaning: "Forgiving of sins."
8196 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas, the freedman of Banu Hashim, told us, Muhammad ibn ‘Amr Zunayj told us, Salamah told us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "Forgiving," meaning: "He forgives the sin."
8197 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr told us, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar told me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr: His saying: "Merciful," meaning: "Merciful to the believers."
8198 - Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas told us, Zunayj told us, Salamah told us, he said: Muhammad said regarding His saying: "Merciful," meaning: "He has mercy upon the servants despite what is in them."
