‘Arubah, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah created Adam as a tall man with a lot of hair on his head, as if he were a towering palm tree. When he tasted the tree, his garment fell from him, and the first thing of him that became visible was his private part. When he looked at his private part, he began to run through Paradise, and a tree caught his hair, so he struggled with it. The Most Gracious (al-Rahman) called out to him: 'O Adam, are you fleeing from Me?' When he heard the words of the Most Gracious, he said: 'O Lord, no, but out of shame. Do you see if I repent and return, will I return to Paradise?' He said: 'Yes.' That is the meaning of His saying: 'Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words...'" [the verse].
8300 - My father mentioned that ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Amr ibn Rustah told us, Abu Qutaybah told us, al-Hasan ibn Abi Ja‘far told us, from ‘Amr ibn Malik, from Abu al-Jawza', from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Their private parts became visible to them," he said: When Allah settled Adam in Paradise, He clothed him in a garment made of nails. When he committed the sin, He stripped him of the garment, and it remained only on the tips of his fingers.
His saying, the Almighty: "And they began"
8301 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And they began to fasten upon themselves from the leaves of Paradise," he said: They began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise, the fig [leaves].
His saying, the Almighty: "To fasten upon themselves"
8302 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj told us, Ja‘far ibn ‘Awn told us, Sufyan told us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from al-Minhal, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas: "And they began to fasten upon themselves from the leaves of Paradise," he said: They were plucking fig leaves and placing them upon their private parts.
8303 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "To fasten upon themselves," he said: They were patching them together like the fabric of a garment.
8304 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "And they began to fasten upon themselves," he said: They began to cover themselves.
