8331 - My father told us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, told us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih told me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas: His saying: "And fine clothing (riyash)," he says: Wealth. Something similar has been narrated from Mujahid and al-Dahhak.

8332 - Abu Sa‘id ibn Yahya ibn Sa‘id al-Qattan told us, ‘Uthman ibn ‘Umar told us, Mukhtar al-Tamimi al-Kufi told us, Abu Matar told us, he said: We went out with ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, and he came to the clothes merchants. He said to a man: Sell me a shirt for three dirhams. When he put it on, he said: Praise be to Allah who has clothed me with fine clothing (riyash) to conceal my private parts and to adorn myself among people. Then he said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to say this when he put on a new garment.

8333 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d informed us in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my paternal uncle told me, from his father, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbas: His saying: "And fine clothing (riyash)," and "riyash" means clothing, living, and prosperity.

8334 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, ‘Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah told us, Abu Hafs al-Abbar ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman told us, from ‘Isa ibn al-Musayyib, from Zayd ibn ‘Ali: His saying: "And fine clothing (rish)," and "rish" is: The clothing of adornment.

8335 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh reported, he said: I heard ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd saying regarding the saying of Allah: "And fine clothing (riyash)," he said: "Riyash" is beauty.

His saying, the Almighty: "And the clothing of righteousness."

8336 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d informed us in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my paternal uncle told me, from his father, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbas: His saying: "And the clothing of righteousness," is: Righteous action.

[The second interpretation]

8337 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Shu‘ayb ibn Zurayq told us, from ‘Ata’ al-Khurasani, from ‘Ikrimah, regarding the saying of Allah: "And the clothing of righteousness," it is said: What the righteous will wear on the Day of Resurrection.
