His saying, the Almighty: "That they might remember."

8343 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr told us, Ibn Lahi‘ah told me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar told me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "That you might..." He means: In order to.

His saying, the Almighty: "O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he brought your parents out of the Garden."

8344 - Ahmad ibn Sinan al-Wasiti told us, Abu Mu‘awiyah told us, from al-A‘mash, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Khalid al-‘Absi, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ma‘qil, he said: A grandfather was mentioned in the presence of Ibn ‘Abbas, so he said: Which father of yours is the greatest? He said: Adam. He said: For Allah says: "O children of Adam."

His saying: "He stripped from them their clothing."

[The first interpretation]

8345 - Muhammad ibn Isma‘il al-Ahmasi told us, ‘Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani Abu Yahya told us, al-Nadr Abu ‘Umar al-Khazzaz told us, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, "He stripped from them their clothing," he said: The clothing of Adam, peace be upon him, was the fingernail, equivalent to the feathers on a bird. When he disobeyed, his clothing fell away from him, and the fingernails were left as an adornment and a benefit.

8346 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, he said: Adam was sixty cubits tall, so Allah clothed this skin and aided him with the fingernail with which he could scratch.

[The second interpretation]

8347 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn Mansur al-Tusi told us, Ibrahim ibn Makhlad told us, Rishdin told us, from Muhammad ibn Sahl, from Sahl, from Anas ibn Malik, he said: The clothing of Adam in the Garden was ruby/chrysolite (al-yaqut). When he disobeyed, it retracted and became the fingernail.

[The third interpretation]

8348 - Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Muqri told us, Sufyan told us, from ‘Amr ibn Dinar, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, regarding His saying, "He stripped from them their clothing," he said: Upon each one of them was a light, and neither one of them could see the private parts of the other.
