and to the dust you shall return. He who is alive today and will die tomorrow is not to be arrogant. Indeed, Allah, the Almighty, has promised the arrogant that He will humble them and elevate the oppressed, for He said: "From it We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will bring you out another time." Then He said: "A group [He] guided, and a group deserved to be in error. Indeed, they took the devils as allies instead of Allah, and they calculate that they are guided."
His saying, the Almighty: "And they calculate that they are guided."
8374 - It was mentioned from Duhaym ibn Ibrahim, Yahya ibn Hassan told us, from Aflah ibn Humayd, from al-Mughirah ibn al-Ja‘d, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas: "As He began your creation, you will return [to life]," he said: If you die, the guided one calculates that he is upon guidance, and the wealthy one calculates that he is upon guidance, until it becomes clear to him at the time of death; and likewise you shall be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection, and that is His saying: "And they calculate that they are guided."
His saying, the Almighty: "O children of Adam, take your adornment"
8375 - Ahmad ibn Sinan al-Wasiti told us, Abu Dawud told us, from Shu‘bah, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: A woman used to circumambulate [the Ka‘bah] in the Pre-Islamic era while she was naked, with a cloth over her private parts, and she would say: "Today it will appear, all of it or part of it, and what appears of it I shall not permit." Then [the verse] was revealed: "Take your adornment at every masjid [place of worship]," and: "Say, 'Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah?'"
8376 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih told me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas: Regarding His saying: "O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid," he said: They used to circumambulate the Sacred House naked at night, so Allah commanded them to wear their garments and not to be naked. Something similar was narrated from ‘Ata’ ibn Abi Rabah.
8377 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my uncle told us, my father told me, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbas: Regarding His saying: "O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid," to the end of the verse, he said: Men used to circumambulate the House naked, so Allah commanded them to take [their] adornment, and the adornment is the garment, which is what covers the private parts, and besides that, [it also includes] the good quality fabrics and attire; thus, they were commanded to take their adornment at every masjid.
