Abi Hammad, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, regarding His saying: "And they seek to make it crooked"—he said: They desire in Mecca a religion other than Islam.
8487 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And they seek to make it crooked"—he said: They sought to make Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) crooked.
8488 - And by the same chain from al-Suddi: "Crooked"—he said: Destruction.
His saying, the Almighty: "And between them will be a partition."
8489 - My father told us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman told us, 'Ubaydah ibn Humayd told us, from Mansur, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Harith, who said: Ibn 'Abbas said: The A'raf (the Heights) is the wall that is between the people of Paradise and the people of the Fire, and it is the partition.
8490 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "And between them will be a partition," and it is the wall, and it is the A'raf.
His saying, the Almighty: "And on the A'raf (Heights)."
[The First Aspect]
8491 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj told us, 'Uqbah ibn Khalid told me, Isra'il told us, from Jabir, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The A'raf is a wall like the comb of a rooster.
It was narrated from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, and one of the two statements of Mujahid, al-Dahhak, al-Suddi, and Qatadah, that they said: A wall between Paradise and the Fire.
8492 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "And on the A'raf will be men"—he said: The A'raf is a partition between Paradise and the Fire, and a wall that has a gate.
And the second aspect:
8493 - My father told us, Abu Nu'aym told us, Sufyan told us, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Yazid, who said: I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: The A'raf is that which is elevated. And from Abu Mijlaz, that he said: An elevated place.
