7982 - My father told us, Yahya ibn al-Mughirah told us, Jarir informed us, from Sulayman al-Yatimi, from Abu Mijlaz, regarding His saying: "And do not follow the footsteps of Satan," he said: Vows involving acts of disobedience.
7983 - My father told me, Thabit ibn Muhammad al-Zahid told us, Husayn al-Ju'fi told us, from al-Qasim ibn al-Walid al-Hamdani, he said: I asked Qatadah, and said: What do you say regarding His saying: "Do not follow the footsteps of Satan"? He said: Every act of disobedience to Allah is from the footsteps of Satan. It was narrated from al-Suddi the like of the statement of Qatadah.
7984 - Abu Zayd al-Qaratisi wrote to me, Asbagh told us, from Ibn Zayd, regarding His saying: "the footsteps of Satan," he said: Do not follow his obedience; they are sins for you, and it is obedience to the vile one.

7985 - My father told us, Khalid ibn Khawwash al-Muhallabi told us, Hammad ibn Zayd told us, from al-Zubayr ibn al-Khirrit, from 'Ikrimah, he said: He was only called Satan (al-Shaytan) because he acted wickedly (tashaytana).

7986 - My father told us, Ibn al-Asbahani told us, Abu al-Ahwas informed us, from Abu Ishaq, from 'Ata', he said: Ibn 'Abbas said: The eight pairs—of camels, cattle, sheep, and goats—are according to what one can afford, and that which is larger is better.
7987 - Ja'far ibn al-Nadr ibn Hammad al-Wasiti told us, Ishaq ibn Yusuf told us, from Sharik, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Nu'man ibn Malik, from Ibn 'Abbas, that he said: The eight pairs are of the camels, the cattle, the goats, and the sheep.
7988 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "[They are] eight pairs: of the sheep, two; and of the goats, two... and of the camels, two; and of the cattle, two," he says: I sent down for you eight pairs of these that I have counted: a male and a female.
7989 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "eight pairs," [referring to] what Allah forbade regarding the bahirah and the sa'ibah.
