7991 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my uncle told me, from his father, from 'Atiyyah, from Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding His saying: "Say, 'Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females?'" He says: I have not forbidden anything of that.

7992 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman al-Awdi informed me in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: Regarding His saying: "Say, 'Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females?'"—is it the two males that I have forbidden for you, or the two females?

His saying, Exalted is He: "...or that which the wombs of the two females contain?"

7993 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding His saying: "...or that which the wombs of the two females contain?" He means: Does the womb contain anything other than a male or a female? So why do you forbid some and permit some?

7994 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Ibn 'Atiyyah told us, from Abu Raja', from al-Hasan: "Say, 'Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females? Or that which the wombs of the two females contain?'" He said: That which the womb has carried.

7995 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' told us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Say, 'Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females?'" He says: Ask them: Is it the two males He has forbidden or the two females, or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Meaning: I have not forbidden any of this.

His saying: "Inform me with knowledge, if you should be truthful."

7996 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my uncle told us, from his father, from 'Atiyyah, from Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding His saying: "Inform me with knowledge, if you should be truthful," he says: It is all lawful, meaning that which was mentioned previously regarding what the people of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era) had forbidden.
