to a faction of them, and they ask your permission to go out, then say: "You will never go out with me, ever, and you will never fight with me an enemy."
His saying the Exalted: "Indeed, you were satisfied with sitting the first time, so sit [now] with those who stay behind." And "al-khalifin" (those who stay behind): [they are] the men.
His saying the Exalted: "And do not pray over any one of them who has died - ever."
10205 - Abu 'Ubayd Allah, the nephew of Ibn Wahb, narrated to us, Shu'ayb ibn al-Layth narrated to us, al-Layth ibn Sa'd informed me, from 'Aqil ibn Khalid, from al-Zuhri, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Utbah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from 'Umar that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, will you pray over Ibn Ubayy, and he said on such and such a day [this and that]?"—counting off some of his sayings. He said: "So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed over him, then he turned away. He did not remain but a short while until the [verses of] condemnation were revealed in [Surat] Bara'ah: 'And do not pray over any one of them who has died - ever, and do not stand at his grave.'"
10206 - My father narrated to us, Musaddad and Hammad ibn Zadhan narrated to us, they said: Yahya narrated to us, from 'Ubayd Allah, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar: "When 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy died, his son came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: 'Give me your shirt so that I may shroud him in it, and pray over him, and ask forgiveness for him.' He gave him his shirt, then said: 'Inform me [when he is ready] so that I may pray over him.' He informed him. When he intended to pray over him, 'Umar pulled him and said: 'Has Allah not forbidden you to pray over the hypocrites?!' He said: 'I am between two choices: "Ask forgiveness for them, or do not ask forgiveness for them; if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will not forgive them."' So he prayed over him, then it was revealed: 'And do not pray over any one of them who has died - ever, and do not stand at his grave.' So he abandoned praying over them."
His saying the Exalted: "And do not stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient."
10207 - Yazid ibn Sinan al-Basri, a resident of Egypt, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Malik ibn Hisham narrated to us, Ziyad ibn 'Abd Allah, meaning al-Bakka'i, narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, he said: al-Zuhri narrated to us, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Utbah ibn Mas'ud, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "I heard 'Umar ibn al-Khattab say: 'When 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul died, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was called to pray over him, he stood...'
إِلَى طَائِفَةٍ مِنْهُمْ فَاسْتَأْذَنُوكَ لِلْخُرُوجِ فَقُلْ لَنْ تَخْرُجُوا مَعِيَ أَبَدًا وَلَنْ تُقَاتِلُوا مَعِيَ عَدُوًّا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنَّكُمْ رَضِيتُمْ بِالْقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَاقْعُدُوا مَعَ الْخَالِفِينَ.
١٠٢٠٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ كَاتِبُ اللَّيْثِ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّكُمْ رَضِيتُمْ بِالْقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ:
الْخَالِفِينَ وَالْخَالِفِينَ: الرِّجَالُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدًا.
١٠٢٠٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ وَهْبٍ ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ أَخْبَرَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ عَقِيلِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَتُصَلِّي عَلَى ابْنِ أُبَيٍّ وَقَدْ قَالَ يَوْمَ كَذَا:
وَكَذَا؟ أُعَدِّدُ عَلَيْهِ بَعْضَ قَوْلِهِ، قَالَ: فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَلَمْ يَمْكُثْ إِلا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى نَزَلَتِ الإِنْكَارُ فِي بَرَاءَةَ وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدًا وَلا تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ.
١٠٢٠٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ زَاذَانَ قَالا: ثنا يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ: لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ جَاءَ ابْنُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- فَقَالَ: اعْطِنِي قَمِيصَكَ حَتَّى أُكَفِّنَهُ فِيهِ وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُ، فَأَعْطَاهُ قَمِيصَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: آذِنِّي بِهِ حَتَّى أُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ فَآذَنَهُ فَلَمَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ جَذَبَهُ عُمَرُ وَقَالَ: أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ قَدْ نَهَاكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّي عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ؟! قَالَ: أَنَا بَيْنَ خِيرَتَيْنِ اسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ إِنْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً فَلَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، فَنَزَلَتْ وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدًا وَلا تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ فَتَرَكَ الصَّلاةَ عَلَيْهِمْ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلا تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ إِنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَمَاتُوا وهم فاسقون.
١٠٢٠٧ - حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ نَزِيلُ مِصْرَ ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ثنا زِيَادٌ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي الْبَكَّائِيَّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ: لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ عبد الله ابن أبي بن سَلُولٍ وَدُعِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسلم- للصلاة عليه فقام
