God revealed concerning them: "Nor [is there blame] on those who, when they came to you for you to provide them with mounts, you said, 'I can find nothing to provide you with,'" the verse.
10205 - 'Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us from al-Rabi' from al-Hasan, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You have left behind in Medina people who, whatever you spent of expenditure, and whatever valley you crossed, and whatever gain you achieved from an enemy, they shared in the reward with you." Then he recited: "Nor [is there blame] on those who, when they came to you for you to provide them with mounts, you said, 'I can find nothing to provide you with,'" the verse.
His saying the Exalted: "For you to provide them with mounts."
10206 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn 'Atiyyah narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Hasan ibn Salih saying regarding this verse: "Nor [is there blame] on those who, when they came to you for you to provide them with mounts," he said: They requested him for sandals.
10207 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad al-Musaffa narrated to us, Baqiyyah narrated to us from Ibrahim ibn Adham regarding His saying: "Nor [is there blame] on those who, when they came to you for you to provide them with mounts," he said: They did not ask him for horses, they asked him for nothing but sandals.
His saying the Exalted: "You said, 'I can find nothing to provide you with.'"
10208 - Abu Nashit Muhammad ibn Harun narrated to us, Musa ibn Ayyub al-Nasibi narrated to us, Baqiyyah narrated to us from Ibrahim ibn Adham regarding His saying: "I can find nothing to provide you with," he said: The sandals.
10209 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, 'Uth 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Musa ibn Muhammad narrated to us from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq from Abu Sufyan from Anas ibn Malik: "You said, 'I can find nothing to provide you with,' they turned back, while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find anything to spend," he said: Provisions and water.

10200 - (*) Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed us in what he wrote to me: My father narrated to us, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to us from his father from his grandfather from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "They turned back, while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find anything to spend." And that is because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered the people to set out as warriors with him, and a group of his companions came, among them was 'Abd Allah ibn Mughaffal, and they said: "O Messenger of Allah, provide us with mounts." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: "By Allah, I cannot find anything to provide you with." So they turned back with weeping, and it was hard for them to be restrained from the jihad while they could not find the means to spend nor a mount. When Allah the Almighty saw their keenness for His love and the love of His Messenger, He revealed their excuse in His Book and said: "There is no blame on the weak, nor on the sick," up to His saying: "They turned back, while their eyes overflowed with tears," the verse.

أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِمْ وَلا عَلَى الَّذِينَ إِذَا مَا أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قُلْتَ لَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ تَوَلَّوْا الآيَةَ.
١٠٢٠٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو الأَوْدِيُّ ثنا وَكِيعٌ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- «لَقَدْ خَلَّفْتُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَقْوَامًا، مَا أَنْفَقْتُمْ مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ، وَلا قَطَعْتُمْ وَادِيًا، وَلا نِلْتُمْ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ نَيْلا، إِلا وَقَدْ شَارَكوُكُمْ فِي الأَجْرِ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ وَلا عَلَى الَّذِينَ إِذَا مَا أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قُلْتَ لا أَجِدُ الآيَةَ.

١٠٢٠٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ صَالِحٍ يَقُولُ فِي هَذِهِ الآيَةِ: وَلا عَلَى الَّذِينَ إِذَا مَا أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قَالَ: اسْتَحْمَلُوهُ النِّعَالَ.
١٠٢٠٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ الْمُصَفَّى ثنا بَقِيَّةُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَدْهَمَ فِي قَوْلِهِ:
وَلا عَلَى الَّذِينَ إِذَا مَا أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قَالَ: مَا سَأَلُوهُ الْخَيْلَ، مَا سَأَلُوهُ إِلا النِّعَالَ.

١٠٢٠٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قُلْتَ لَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ تَوَلَّوْا وَأَعْيُنَهُمْ تُفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ قَالَ: الزَّادُ وَالْمَاءُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: تَوَلَّوْا وَأَعْيُنَهُمْ تُفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ حَزَنًا أَلَّا يَجِدُوا مَا ينفقون الْآيَةَ.
١٠٢٠٠ - (*) أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَبِي ثنا عَمِّي الْحُسَيْنُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَوْلُهُ: تَوَلَّوْا وَأَعْيُنُهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ حَزَنًا أَلَّا يَجِدُوا مَا يُنْفِقُونَ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- أَمَرَ النَّاسَ أَنْ يَنْبَعِثُوا غَازِينَ مَعَهُ، فَجَاءَتْ عِصَابَةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فِيهِمْ: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُغَفَّلٍ فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، احْمِلْنَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- «وَاللَّهِ مَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ فتولُوا وَلَهُمْ بُكَاءٌ» ، وَعَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يُحْبَسُوا عَنِ الْجِهَادِ، وَلا يَجِدُونَ نَفَقَةً، ولا
