Translation · EN

al-Mubarak, 'Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram informed us, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from 'Abd Allah ibn Shaddad, who said: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the 'Awwah?" He said: "The humble, the one who is earnest in supplication." He said: "Indeed, Ibrahim was compassionate, forbearing."

The Second Aspect:

10063 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from al-Hakam, from Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, that Abu al-'Ubaydayn asked 'Abd Allah about the 'Awwah, and he said: "The merciful." And it was narrated from Abu Maysarah, al-Hasan, Mujahid, and Qatadah similar to that.

The Third Aspect:

10064 - My father narrated to us, Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Hasan ibn Salih narrated to us, from Muslim, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The 'Awwah is the one who has certainty (al-muqin).

10065 - Al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Uqbah narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from Mujahid and 'Ikrimah, who said: The 'Awwah means the one who has certainty in the Abyssinian language.

10066 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Abu Mujahid, regarding 'Awwah, he said: A scholar possessing certainty.

The Fourth Aspect:

10067 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding his saying: "Indeed, Ibrahim was 'Awwah," he said: He means the oft-returning to repentance (al-tawwab).

10068 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Talhah ibn Sinan narrated to us, from Layth, from Mujahid, who said: The 'Awwab (the one who returns) is the one who turns back to God (al-munib).

The Fifth Aspect:

10069 - It was mentioned from Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, from Ibn Lahi'ah, from al-Harith ibn Yazid, from Abu 'Amir al-Asbahi, from Shufayy ibn Mati', from Abu Ayyub, who said: The 'Awwah is the one who, when he remembers his sins, asks for forgiveness for them.

الْمُبَارَكِ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ بَهْرَامَ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا الأَوَّاهُ؟ قَالَ: الْخَاشِعُ، الْمُتَضَرِّعُ الدُّعَاءِ، قَالَ: إن إبراهيم لأواه حليم.

وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:

١٠٠٦٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا وَكِيعٌ ثنا الأَعْمَشُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ أَنَّ أَبَا الْعُبَيْدَيْنِ سَأَلَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ عَنِ الأَوَّاهِ؟ فَقَالَ: الرَّحِيمُ- وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي مَيْسَرَةَ. وَالْحَسَنِ وَمُجَاهِدٍ وَقَتَادَةَ: «١» مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ.

وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:

١٠٠٦٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا حَسَنُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ «٢» عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: الأَوَّاهُ: الْمُوقِنُ.

١٠٠٦٥ - حَدَّثَنَا الأَشَجُّ ثنا عُقْبَةُ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ وَعِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ:

الأَوَّاهُ: الْمُوقِنُ بِلِسَانِ الْحَبَشَةِ.

١٠٠٦٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي مُجَاهِدٍ أَوَّاهٌ قَالَ: فَقِيهٌ مُوقِنٌ.

وَالْوَجْهُ الرَّابِعُ:

١٠٠٦٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لأَوَّاهٌ يَعْنِي: التَّوَّابَ.

١٠٠٦٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ثنا طَلْحَةُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ:

الْأَوَّابُ الْمُنِيبُ.

وَالْوَجْهُ الْخَامِسُ:

١٠٠٦٩ - ذُكِرَ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ كَاتِبِ اللَّيْثِ عَنِ ابْنِ لَهِيعَةَ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي عَامِرٍ الأَصْبَحِيِّ عَنْ شُفَيِّ بْنِ مَاتِعٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ: الأَوَّاهُ: الَّذِي إِذَا ذَكَرَ خَطَايَاهُ استغفر منها.
