the mujahidin, and it is said: It means the believers of the people of Mecca who stayed behind from the migration (Hijrah); He is saying: Migrate to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and be with the Emigrants (Muhajirin).
THE FOURTH ASPECT:
10100 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn Khalid told us, Siba' al-Mawsili told us, Khulayd ibn Da'laj told us, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with the truthful," he said: If you desire to be with the truthful, you must adopt asceticism (zuhd) regarding the worldly life and refrain from (harming) the people of the religion.
THE FIFTH ASPECT:
10101 - My father told us, Sahl ibn Uthman told us, a man whom he named told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with the truthful," he said: Be with Ka'b ibn Malik, Mararah ibn Rabi'ah, and Hilal ibn Umayyah.
10102 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us, in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwazi told us, Shayban told us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Fear Allah and be with the truthful," he said: Truthfulness in intention, truthfulness in action, truthfulness by night and by day, and truthfulness in private and in public.
His saying, the Almighty: "It was not for the people of Medina and those around them from the Bedouins."
10103 - It was read to Yunus ibn Abd al-A'la, Abd Allah ibn Wahb informed us, Abu Hani' al-Khawlani informed me, from Amr ibn Malik, from some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: When this verse was revealed: "It was not for the people of Medina and those around them from the Bedouins to remain behind the Messenger of Allah, nor to prefer their own lives to his," the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By the One who sent me with the truth, were it not for the weak among the people, there would not have been any expedition (sariyyah) except that I would be in it.
10104 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam told us, regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty: "It was not for the people of Medina and those around them from the Bedouins to remain behind the Messenger of Allah," this was when Islam was small; it was not for anyone to remain behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then, when Islam grew and spread, Allah—the Almighty—said: "And the believers are not to march out all together."
الْمُجَاهِدِينِ، وَيُقَالُ: يَعْنِي بِهِ مُؤْمِنِي أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ الَّذِينَ تَخَلَّفُوا عَنِ الْهِجْرَةَ، يَقُولُ:
هَاجِرُوا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ.

١٠١٠٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ثنا سِبَاعُ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ ثنا خُلَيْدُ بْنُ دَعْلَجٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ فِي قَوْلُهُ: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ قَالَ: إِنْ أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ، فَعَلَيْكَ بِالزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْكَفِّ عَنْ أَهْلِ الْمِلَّةِ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الْخَامِسُ:
١٠١٠١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ثنا رَجُلٌ قَدْ سَمَّاهُ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ فِي قَوْلُهُ:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ قَالَ: كُونُوا مَعَ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، وَمَرَارَةِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، وَهِلالِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ.
١٠١٠٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ الطُّوسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ثنا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ قَالَ: الصِّدْقُ فِي النِّيَّةِ، وَالصِّدْقُ فِي الْعَمَلِ، وَالصِّدْقُ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ، وَالصِّدْقُ فِي السِّرِّ وَالْعَلَانِيَةِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: مَا كَانَ لأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ.
١٠١٠٣ - قُرِئَ عَلَى يُونُسَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ أخبرني أَبُو هَانِي الْخَوْلانِيُّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ مَا كَانَ لأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَلا يَرْغَبُوا بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:
وَالَّذِي بَعَثَنِي بِالْحَقِّ لَوْلا ضُعَفَاءُ النَّاسِ مَا كَانَتْ سَرِيَّةٌ إِلا كُنْتُ فِيهَا.
١٠١٠٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ ثنا أَصْبَغُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثنا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا كَانَ لأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ هَذَا حِينَ كَانَ الإِسْلامُ قَلِيلا لَمْ يَكُنْ لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا كَثُرَ الإِسْلامُ وَفَشَا، قَالَ اللَّهُ- عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَمَا كَانَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لِيَنْفِرُوا كَافَّةً.
