Ibn Abi 'Arubah said: Al-Hasan used to say: "What right do these people have to say: 'O Allah, extend his life,' while Allah says: 'When their term comes, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it]'?"
His saying, the Exalted: "Say, 'Have you considered: if His punishment should come to you by night or by day,'" [until the end of the] verse.
10409 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Have you considered: if His punishment should come to you," he said: "Suddenly, while you are secure."
His saying, the Exalted: "Then when it has occurred, will you believe in it?" [until the end of the] verse.
10410 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah told me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar told me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "Taste [it]," meaning: the punishment.
His saying, the Exalted: "Are you being recompensed except for what you used to earn?"
10411 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad told us, Adam told us, Abu Ja'far told us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, regarding His saying: "[what you used to] earn," meaning: from sin.
His saying, the Exalted: "And they ask you, 'Is it true?' Say, 'Yes, by my Lord,'" [until the end of the] verse.
10412 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "[And you will not be] to cause failure [to Allah]," he said: "To race [ahead]."
His saying, the Exalted: "And if each soul that had wronged [had]..." [until the end of the] verse.
10413 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Hisinjani told us, Abu al-Jumahir told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "It will be said to the disbelievers on the Day of Resurrection: 'Have you considered, if there were the earth's fill of gold, would you seek to ransom yourself with it?'" He said: "So he will say: 'Yes.'" He said: "Then He will say: 'You were charged with what is easier than that.'" Allah says to them: "Hell, [and] they will [enter to] burn therein, and wretched is the resting place."
His saying, the Exalted: "They will not be wronged."
10414 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah told me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar told me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "And they will not be wronged," meaning: regarding their deeds, so nothing will be deducted from their accounts, and nothing will be added to their evil deeds."
