Volume 6 · Page 225The saying of the Exalted: '...then I have relied upon Allah'

Translation · EN

10479 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, told us, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah, Salamah ibn al-Fadl told us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told me, he said: Among the accounts of Noah and the accounts of his people, according to what Allah related upon the tongue of His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and what the people of knowledge mention from the Torah, and what the people preserved in the hadiths from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas, from 'Ubayd ibn 'Umayr, is that Allah sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them for a thousand years less fifty years, calling them to Allah. Sins had spread on the earth, tyrants had increased in it, and they had become exceedingly arrogant against Allah. Noah, according to what the people of knowledge mention, was forbearing and patient; no prophet met with more affliction from his people than he did, except for a prophet who was killed.

His saying, the Almighty: "So upon Allah I have relied."

10480 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas told us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr Zunayj told us, Salamah told us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And upon Allah—not upon the people—should the reliant rely."

His saying, the Almighty: "So resolve upon your plan and [call upon] your associates."

10481 - 'Abd Allah ibn Isma'il al-Baghdadi told us, Khalaf ibn Hisham al-Muqri' told us, 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Ata' al-Khaffaf told us, from Harun, from Usayd, from al-A'raj regarding: "So resolve upon your plan and [call upon] your associates," he says: "Strengthen your plan and call your associates."

10482 - 'Ubayd Allah ibn Isma'il al-Baghdadi told us, Khalaf ibn Hisham al-Khaffaf told us, from Harun, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "So resolve upon your plan and [call upon] your associates," meaning: "So let them resolve upon their plan together with you."

His saying, the Almighty: "Then let not your plan be [a cause of] regret to you."

10483 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah, regarding: "Then let not your plan be [a cause of] regret to you [ghummah]," he said: "Let your plan not be a burden upon you."

His saying, the Almighty: "Then resolve."

[The first interpretation]

10484 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Then resolve [iqdu] to me and do not give me respite," he said: "Arise and come to me."
