His saying, the Almighty: "And Pharaoh said, 'Bring me every learned sorcerer.'"
10512 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti told us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and Yazid ibn Harun told us, and the wording is that of Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, from Asbagh ibn Zayd al-Warraq, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "That they may bring to you every learned sorcerer," he said: There was gathered for him every pseudo-learned sorcerer.
His saying, the Almighty: "So when the sorcerers came, Moses said to them, 'Throw down what you are going to throw.'"
10513 - And by the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The day on which Allah caused Moses to prevail over Pharaoh and the sorcerers was the day of 'Ashura'. When they gathered on a plateau, some people said to others: "Come, let us attend this matter, and let us follow the sorcerers if they are the victors," meaning by that Moses and Aaron—may Allah bless them and grant them peace—in mockery of them. They said: "O Moses!" due to their power in their sorcery, "Either you throw, or [that] we be the ones to throw." He said: "Throw!" So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, we are indeed the victors." Then Moses saw from their sorcery that which he felt within himself as apprehension, so Allah inspired him to throw his staff.
His saying, the Almighty: "So when they threw, Moses said, 'What you have brought is sorcery. Indeed, Allah will invalidate it. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of the corrupters.'"
10514 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar ibn al-Harith told us, 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, from Layth, he said: It has reached me that these verses are a cure for sorcery by the permission of Allah; they are recited into a vessel containing water, then poured over the head of the bewitched person: the verse in Surah Yunus: "So when they threw, Moses said, 'What you have brought is sorcery. Indeed, Allah will invalidate it. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of the corrupters,'" and: "And Allah establishes the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it," and the other verse: "So the truth was established, and what they were doing was invalidated," up to the end of four verses, and His saying: "What they have crafted is but the trickery of a sorcerer, and the sorcerer does not succeed wherever he may go."
His saying: "And Allah establishes the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it."
10515 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab told us, from Bishr ibn 'Umarah, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "the criminals" (al-mujrimun), he said: The disbelievers.
