His saying, the Almighty: "Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people, and save us."
- Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding his saying: "Do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people," he says: Do not punish us at the hands of the people of Pharaoh, nor with a punishment from You, so that the people of Pharaoh would say, "If they were upon the truth, they would not have been punished," and we would not be empowered against them, so they would be tried by us.
- Ahmad ibn Sinan told us, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi, from Sufyan, from his father, from Abu al-Duha, regarding: "Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people," he said: If You empower them over us, they will increase in tyranny. A similar report was narrated from Abu Qilabah.
- My father told us, Abu Salamah told us, Hammad ibn Salamah told us, from 'Imran ibn Hudayr, from Abu Mijlaz, regarding His saying: "Do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people," he says: Our Lord, do not cause them to overcome us, so that they perceive that they are better than us. A similar report was narrated from 'Ikrimah.
- Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people," he said: Do not test us with them, so that we become distressed, and we are made a trial for them. This is the trial. And he recited: "A trial for the wrongdoers," and said: The polytheists, wherever they were, used to harm the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and the believers, and attack them. Is that not a trial for them and an evil for them? It is a calamity for the believers.
