10590 - Musa ibn Abi Musa told us, Harun ibn Hatim told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad told us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, regarding His saying: "Why was there not a town that believed and its belief benefited it?"—he says: "There was no town that believed and its belief benefited it."
10591 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Why was there not a town that believed"—he said: "No town believed."
10592 - My father told us, 'Ali ibn Nasr told us, 'Ubayd ibn 'Aql told us, Sahl told us, from Ibn Kathir: "Why was there not a town that believed"—meaning: "No town believed, except the people of Yunus (Jonah) and Yusuf."

10593 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman told us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali told us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding "Why was there not a town that believed and its belief benefited it?"—he said: "Yunus ibn Matta (peace be upon him) was one of the prophets of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. Allah sent him to a town called Nineveh on the bank of the Tigris."
10594 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa told us, Salamah told us, from Ibn Ishaq: "And among the accounts of Yunus ibn Matta therein: it reached me that Allah, Blessed and Exalted, sent him to the people of the town of Nineveh, and it is in the lands of Mosul."

10595 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar told us, Hudbah ibn Khalid told us, Aban al-'Attar told us, Ya'la ibn 'Ata' told us, Abu 'Alqamah al-Hashimi or another man told us, that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Caution does not repel destiny, but supplication repels destiny. And that is in the Book of Allah: 'except the people of Yunus when they believed, We removed from them...' the verse."

١٠٥٩٣ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَامِرُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ فَلَوْلا كَانَتْ قَرْيَةٌ آمَنَتْ فَنَفَعَهَا إِيمَانُهَا قَالَ: كَانَ يُونُسُ بْنُ مَتَّى عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ مِنْ أَنْبِيَاءِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى قَرْيَةٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا نِينَوَى عَلَى شَاطِئِ دِجْلَةَ.
١٠٥٩٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، ثنا سَلَمَةُ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ: وَكَانَ مِنْ حَدِيثِ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى فِيهَا بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى بَعَثَهُ إِلَى أَهْلِ قَرْيَةِ أَهْلِ نِينَوَى، وَهِيَ مِنْ بِلادِ الْمَوْصِلِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: آمَنَتْ فَنَفَعَهَا إِيمَانُهَا إِلا قَوْمَ يُونُسَ
١٠٥٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ثنا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ثنا أَبَانُ الْعَطَّارُ، ثنا يَعْلَى ابن عَطَاءٍ، ثنا أَبُو عَلْقَمَةَ الْهَاشِمِيُّ أَوْ رَجُلٌ آخر أن علي ابن أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ الْحَذَرِ لَا يَرُدُّ الْقَدَرَ، وَإِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ يَرُدُّ الْقَدَرَ وَذَلِكَ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ: إِلا قَوْمَ يُونُسَ لَمَّا آمَنُوا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمْ الآيَةَ.
