10065 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Marwan ibn Mu'awiyah al-Fazari narrated to us from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, he said: Al-Sha'bi said: "The providing of water to the pilgrims was revealed concerning al-'Abbas and 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with them both."

And the second interpretation:

10066 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Have you made the providing of water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of al-Masjid al-Haram like one who believes in Allah and the Last Day."

And the third interpretation:

10067 - Al-Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us from Ibn Abi Najih from Mujahid (1) regarding His saying: "The providing of water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of al-Masjid al-Haram." He said: They were commanded to migrate, so al-'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib said: "I provide water to the pilgrims," and Talhah, brother of Banu 'Abd al-Dar, said: "I am the guardian (hajib) of the Ka'bah, so I will not migrate."

His saying, Exalted is He: "They are not equal in the sight of Allah"

10068 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed us—in what he wrote to me—my father narrated to us, my uncle narrated to us from his father from his grandfather from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "They are not equal in the sight of Allah. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people," meaning: those who claimed that they were the people of the maintenance (of the House).

His saying, Exalted is He: "And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people"

10069 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people," meaning: that this was during (the state of) polytheism, and I do not accept what was (performed) during polytheism.
