His saying, the Exalted: "And nations We shall grant enjoyment."

- My father told us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib told us, Abu Mu'adh told us, from 'Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "And nations We shall grant enjoyment," meaning: the enjoyment of the life of this world.

- 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman told us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali told us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And nations We shall grant enjoyment; then there will touch them from Us a painful punishment." He said: These nations are the descendants of those who were in the Ark, such as 'Ad, Thamud, and those generations.

- Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah: "And nations We shall grant enjoyment," then He brought forth from them offspring after that, nations; among them are those who were shown mercy, and among them are those who were punished. He said: The nations only diverged from the group that was brought out of the water and were saved.

- My father informed us, 'Abd al-Samad ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Razi told us, Jasr told us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "O Noah, disembark with peace from Us and blessings upon you and upon nations from those with you, and nations We shall grant enjoyment." He said: Allah continued to secure for us our portion and our preservation, and He remembers us from where we do not remember ourselves; whenever a nation perished, He saved us in the loins of those who were rescued by His kindness until He placed us in the best nation produced for mankind.

- 'Amr ibn 'Abd Allah al-Awdi informed us, Waki' told us, from Musa ibn 'Ubaydah, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b, regarding His saying: "Then there will touch them from Us a painful punishment." He said: Every believing man and woman entered into that blessing and peace, and every disbelieving man and woman entered into that painful punishment until the Day of Resurrection.

- My father told us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib told us, Abu Mu'adh al-Nahwi told us, from 'Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "Then there will touch them from Us a painful punishment," due to what had preceded for them in the knowledge of Allah of wretchedness.

- Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "Then there will touch them from Us a painful punishment," he said: After the mercy.
