10094 - My father narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Nasr al-Jahdami narrated to us, 'Abd al-Samad ibn 'Abd al-Warith narrated to us, Aban ibn Yazid al-'Attar narrated to us, Hisham ibn 'Urwah narrated to us from his father, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stayed for half a month in the year of the Conquest and did not add to that, until Hawazin and Thaqif came to him, and they descended at Hunayn. Hunayn is a valley beside Dhu al-Majaz.
His saying, Exalted is He: "when your great number amazed you," the verse.
10095 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr al-Humaydi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Zuhri saying: Kathir ibn 'Abbas informed me from his father, he said: I was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, on the day of Hunayn, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was on his mule that was gifted to him by al-Judhami. When the Muslims turned away, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to me: "O 'Abbas, call out: O people of the Samurah tree! O people of Surat al-Baqarah!" And I was a man with a loud voice, so I said: "O people of the Samurah tree! O people of Surat al-Baqarah!" They returned with a turning [of zeal] like the turning of a cow toward her calves. The voices rose as they were saying: "O company of the Ansar! O company of the Ansar!" Then the call was limited to the Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj, so he said: "O Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj! O Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj!" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stretched up while on his mule and said: "This is when the battle intensified (hamiya al-watis)," while saying: "Forward, O 'Abbas!" Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, took some pebbles and threw them. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "They are defeated—by the Lord of the Ka'bah." Sufyan said: "And by the Lord of Muhammad."
10096 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Wazir ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami narrated to us, Khalid ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Malik ibn Mighwal narrated to us from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid regarding His saying: "And [on] the day of Hunayn, when your great number amazed you," he said: A man said: We will not be overcome today due to [our] great number.
10097 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman informed us, in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us from al-Suddi [regarding] "And [on] the day of Hunayn, when your great number amazed you," and that a man from the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said on the day of Hunayn: "O Messenger of Allah, we will not be overcome today by a small number," and he was amazed by the great number of the people, and they were twelve thousand.
١٠٠٩٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ثنا أَبَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْعَطَّارُ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقَامَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ نِصْفَ شَهْرٍ ولم يزيد عَلَى ذَلِكَ، حَتَّى جَاءَتْهُ هَوَازِنُ وَثَقِيفُ فَنَزَلُوا بحنين، وحنين وادي إِلَى جَنْبِ ذِي الْمَجَازِ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِذْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَثْرَتُكُمْ الآيَةَ.
١٠٠٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ يَقُولُ: أَخْبَرَنِي كَثِيرُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ الَّتِي أَهْدَاهَا لَهُ الْجُذَامِيُّ فَلَمَّا وَلَّى الْمُسْلِمُونَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا عَبَّاسُ، نَادِ يَا أَصْحَابَ السَّمُرَةِ، يَا أَصْحَابَ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ، وَكُنْتُ رَجُلا صَيِّتًا فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَصْحَابَ السَّمُرَةِ، يَا أَصْحَابَ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ، فَرَجَعُوا عَطْفَةً كَعَطْفَةِ الْبَقَرِ عَلَى أَوْلادِهَا وَارْتَفَعَتِ الأَصْوَاتُ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ، يَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ ثُمَّ قُصِرَتِ الدَّعْوَةُ عَلَى بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، فَقَالَ: يَا بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، يَا بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، فَتَطَاوَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ فَقَالَ: هَذَا حِينَ حِمَى الْوَطِيسُ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: قُدُمًا يَا عَبَّاسُ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَصَيَاتٍ فَرَمَى بِهِنَّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: انْهَزَمُوا- وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ- قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَرَبِّ مُحَمَّدٍ.
١٠٠٩٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْوَزِيرِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيُّ ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ إِذْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَثْرَتُكُمْ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: لَا نُغْلَبُ الْيَوْمَ لِكَثْرَةٍ.
١٠٠٩٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ- فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ- ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السدي وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ إِذْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَثْرَتُكُمْ وَأَنَّ رَجُلا ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ إِذْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَثْرَتُكُمْ وَأَنَّ رَجُلا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لَا نُغْلَبُ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ قِلَّةٍ، وَأَعْجَبَهُ كَثْرَةُ النَّاسِ فَكَانُوا اثْنَى عَشَرَ أَلْفًا.
