His saying, the Exalted: "Have you considered: if I am upon clear evidence from my Lord?"
Its interpretation has preceded.
His saying, the Exalted: "And He has given me mercy from Himself; but who could help me against Allah if I disobeyed Him? So you would not add to me anything but loss."
10985 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mazid al-Bayruti informed us, by reading, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur told us, 'Uthman ibn 'Ata told me, from 'Ata' al-Khurasani regarding "So you would not add to me anything but loss," he said: You would not add to me anything but evil and loss which you shall suffer.
His saying, the Exalted: "And O my people, this is the she-camel of Allah [as] a sign for you."
Its interpretation has preceded in Surah al-A'raf.
10986 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah told us—Muhammad said—Muhammad ibn Ishaq told us, from Ya'qub ibn 'Utbah ibn al-Mughirah, he narrated that they looked at the mountain ridge when Salih prayed to Allah with what he prayed with, so that the she-camel would be brought forth as a camel is brought forth with its young. The ridge moved, then it cracked open, and out came a she-camel as they had described: pregnant and furry, having between its flanks something that no one knows but Allah.
Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: Then Junda' ibn Jirash ibn 'Amr ibn al-Rumayl—who was on that day the leader of Thamud and its greatest man—said to him: "O Salih, bring out for us from this rock a she-camel that is brought forth, pregnant, and furry." The "mukhtarijah" is that which resembles the Bactrian breed of camels. Thamud said to Salih, like what Junda' ibn 'Amr had said, regarding a solitary rock on the side of al-Hijr called al-Katibah: "If you do that, we will believe in you, trust you, and testify that what you have brought is the truth." So Salih took their pledges: "If I do it, and Allah does it, will you believe in me and trust me?" They said: "Yes," and gave him their covenants regarding that. So Salih prayed to his Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, to bring it out for them from that ridge as they had described.
His saying, the Exalted: "So leave her to eat in the land of Allah."
Its interpretation has preceded.
His saying, the Exalted: "But they hamstrung her."
10987 - My father told us, Hisham ibn 'Ammar told us, al-Walid told us, Khulayd ibn Da'laj told us, from Qatadah, that when Thamud hamstrung the she-camel, they conspired together and said: "The decision is yours." So the Qarah—a mountain that was—climbed up.
