10988 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: They watched for the she-camel when she departed from the water, while Qudar had lain in wait for her at the base of the rock on her path, and Misda' had lain in wait for her at the base of another. She passed by Misda', and he struck her with an arrow, which became embedded in the muscle of her leg. He said: Then Qudar lunged at the she-camel with a sword and severed her hock; she fell and let out one cry as her legs were cut, then he stabbed her in her throat and slaughtered her.

Her foal fled until it reached a mountain, then it reached a rock at the top of the mountain and let out a cry, then it took refuge there. Salih came to them, and when he saw that the she-camel had been hamstrung, he wept and said: "You have violated the sanctity of Allah, so receive the tidings of the punishment and vengeance of Allah."

10989 - My father told us, 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah told us, Yahya ibn Yaman told us, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abu Sinan, from 'Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Hudhayl, who said: When the she-camel was hamstrung, her foal climbed a mountain and cried out, and nothing heard it but it [the sound].

His saying, the Exalted: "So he said, 'Enjoy yourselves in your home for three days.'"

10990 - Muhammad ibn 'Awf al-Humsi told us, Abu al-Yaman told us, Ibn 'Abbas told us, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, who said: When we reached al-Hijr during the expedition of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to Tabuk, he said to us: "Do not enter upon these [people] of the signs, for they are the people of Salih. They asked their Prophet to send them a sign, and Allah sent them the she-camel. She would come from that pass and drink their water on the day of her watering, and they would milk from her what they used to drink on the day of their turn, and she would depart from there. But they rebelled against the command of their Lord... and hamstrung her. So Allah promised them that they would remain in their home for three days; it was a promise from Allah that would not be lied about. Then the cry came to them, and it destroyed those who were between the east and west of the earth, except for a man who was in the Sanctuary of Allah, for the Sanctuary of Allah protected him from the punishment of Allah." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, who is he?" He replied: "Abu Righal." They asked: "And who is Abu [Righal]?" He said: "The father of Thaqif."

10991 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Hisinjani told us, Abu al-Jumahir told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Enjoy yourselves in your home for three days. That is a promise not to be lied about." He said: The people were [granted respite] until their appointed times while He was angry with them. By Allah, He did not hasten against them, but He fulfilled their remaining appointed times.
