Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 6 · Page 307[Surah Hud (11): Verse 66]

Translation · EN

10992 - And by the same chain, from Qatadah, that Salih said to his people: "The sign of that is that your faces will become yellow on the first day, red on the second day, and black on the third day." He said: So they dug a trench for themselves, and their rich and poor disbelieved alike. So Allah sent upon them a cry, and it extinguished them. Allah said: "As if they had not prospered therein."

10993 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Salih came to them, and when he saw that the she-camel had been hamstrung, he wept and said: "You have violated the sanctity of Allah, so receive the tidings of the punishment and vengeance of Allah." Four of the nine men who had hamstrung the she-camel followed Qubbu. When Salih said to them, "Receive the tidings of the punishment and vengeance of Allah," they said, mocking him: "And when will that be, O Salih? And what is the sign of that?" They used to name the days among themselves: Sunday was Awwal, Monday was Ahwan, Tuesday was Dibar, Wednesday was Jubar, Thursday was Mu'nis, Friday was al-'Arubah, and Saturday was Shibar. They had hamstrung the she-camel on Wednesday. Salih said to them when they said that to him: "Tomorrow, on the day of Mu'nis (meaning Thursday), your faces will become yellow; then you will wake up on the day of al-'Arubah (meaning Friday) and your faces will be red; then you will wake up on the day of Shibar (meaning Saturday) and your faces will be black; then the punishment will wake you up on Awwal (meaning Sunday)."

His saying, the Exalted: "So when Our command came, We saved Salih..."

10994 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "We saved Salih and those who believed with him by a mercy from Us." He said: Allah saved him as a mercy from Him.

10995 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Until when it was the night of Sunday, Salih and those who were with him, and those who had submitted [to Islam] with him, left from among them to al-Sham, and he descended in the sands of Palestine.

His saying, the Exalted: "And from the disgrace of that day."

10996 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah, regarding: "And from the disgrace of that day," he said: He saved him from the disgrace of that day.
