11012 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Nasr ibn 'Ali told us, Nuh ibn Qays told us, from 'Uthman ibn Mihsan, regarding the guests of Abraham: He said: They were four; Gabriel, Michael, Israfil, and Raphael. Nuh said: 'Awn ibn Abi Shaddad claimed that when he [Gabriel] entered upon Abraham, and he [Abraham] brought the calf near to them, Gabriel wiped it with his two wings, and it stood up walking until it joined its mother, and the calf's mother was in the house.

His saying, the Exalted: "And when he saw their hands did not reach it, he distrusted them."

11013 - My father told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Raja' told us, Shayban Abu Mu'awiyah told us, al-Aswad ibn Qays told us, from Jundub ibn Sufyan, he said: "And when he saw their hands did not reach it, he distrusted them." He said: When the messengers came to Abraham, he brought them food and began to poke the side of the calf with a rod made of arrows. When he saw that their hands did not reach it, Abraham distrusted them at that moment.

11014 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn Hashim al-Ramli told us, Damrah told us, from Yazid ibn Abi Yazid, regarding His saying: "And when he saw their hands did not reach it, he distrusted them," he said: We did not see them having hands, so he distrusted them.

His saying, the Exalted: "And he felt from them fear."

11015 - My father, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah, he said: "And when he saw their hands did not reach it, he distrusted them. And he felt from them fear." The Arabs, when a guest would descend upon them and he would not eat from their food, would think that he had not come for good and that he was secretly intending harm. Then they informed him about that which they had come for, and his wife laughed.

His saying, the Exalted: "They said, 'Do not fear. Indeed, we have been sent to the people of Lot.'"

11016 - My father told us, al-Hasan ibn 'Umar ibn Shaqiq told us, Ja'far ibn Sulayman told us, from Abu 'Imran, he informed me from 'Abd Allah ibn Rabah al-Ansari, from Ka'b: "Indeed, we have been sent to the people of Lot." His wife was standing, and she laughed at the disgrace God was bringing upon them.

11017 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And his wife was standing, and she laughed," he said: His wife laughed and was amazed that a people should have the punishment come upon them while they were in heedlessness, so she laughed at that and was amazed.
