what she said to the messengers when they gave her the good tidings of Isaac: "I was young and Abraham was young, yet I did not conceive. So now that I have grown old and he has grown old, shall I bear a child?" They said: "Do you wonder at that, O Sarah? For God has done for you what is greater than that. Indeed, God has placed His mercy and His blessings upon you, O people of the House. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, Glorious."

His saying, the Exalted: "And behind Isaac, Jacob."

11024 - My father mentioned, from Nasr ibn 'Ali, Abu Ahmad told us, Nasr told us, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "And behind Isaac, Jacob," he said: He is the child of the child.

11025 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas told us, Abu Salamah told us, Wuhayb told us, from Dawud, from 'Amir regarding His saying: "Then she laughed and We gave her good tidings of Isaac, and behind Isaac, Jacob," he said: Behind [the] child of the child.

His saying, the Exalted: "She said, 'Woe to me! Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman?'"

11026 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah regarding God's saying: "She said, 'Woe to me! Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman?'" And she was on that day seventy years old.

11027 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who said: My father mentioned, from some of those who read the Book, that she was ninety years old.

His saying, the Exalted: "And this is my husband."

11028 - Musa ibn Abi Musa al-Khatmi told us, Harun ibn Hatim told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "My husband" (ba'li), meaning: my spouse.

His saying, the Exalted: "An old man."

11029 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Sa'id ibn Bashir told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And this is my husband, an old man," and he was on that day ninety years old.

11030 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, client of the Banu Hashim, told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah told us, Salamah told us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who mentioned to me, from some of those who read the Book regarding "And this is my husband, an old man": That Abraham was one hundred and twenty years old.
