His saying, the Exalted: "And when Our messengers came to Lot"
11050 - My father told us, Abu Salamah Musa ibn Isma'il told us, Hammad told us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Bishr al-Ansari, that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him) said: "The people had warned the people of Lot. Then the angels came to them in the evening and passed by their meeting place. The people of Lot said to one another: 'Do not scare them off.' They had never seen people more beautiful than the angels. When they entered upon Lot, the people of Lot gathered toward the two sides. Lot went out to them and kept pleading with them regarding his guests, until he even offered them his daughters, but they refused. Then they entered his house, and the angels said: 'We are the messengers of your Lord; they will not reach you.' He said: 'The messengers of my Lord?' They said: 'Yes.' Lot said: 'Then now is the time.'"
11051 - My father told us, Sa'id ibn Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah told us, from Humayd ibn Hilal al-'Adawi, from Jundub, who said: Hudhayfah said: "When the messengers were sent to the people of Lot to destroy them, it was said to them: 'Do not destroy the people of Lot until Lot testifies against them three times.' He said: 'So they came to Lot while he was in his land working. He thought they were guests. When it became evening, he headed toward his family, and they walked with him. He turned to them and said: "Do you see what these people are doing?" They said: "And what are they doing?" He said: "There are no people safer from evil than they are." They walked with him until Lot said the same thing three times. He arrived with them at his family. Then the old woman—the evil old woman, his wife—set out and came to his people, saying: "Lot has entertained tonight some people; I have never seen any more beautiful or better-scented than them."
11052 - Abu Zur'ah told us, 'Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, who said:
The angels left from Abraham toward the town of Lot and arrived there at midday. When they reached the river of Sodom, they met a daughter of Lot fetching water for her family. He had two daughters: the eldest, Raba, and the youngest, Zighrana. He said to her: "O young girl, is there any lodging?" She said: "Yes, stay where you are, do not enter until I come to you." She was afraid for them because of her people. She came to her father and said: "O my father, young men have sought you at the gate of the city, the likes of whose faces I have never seen better. Do not let your people seize them and disgrace them." His people had already forbidden him to host any man, and they said: "Get away from us; let us host the men." They brought them in, and no one knew except the household of Lot. His wife went out and informed her people, saying: "There are men in the house of Lot, the likes of whom I have never seen." So his people came rushing toward him... They said: "Did we not forbid you from hosting men?"
