11087 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: “And let not any among you look back,” he said: None of you should look behind him.
11088 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: “And let not any among you look back, except your wife,” indeed, what struck them will strike her. It was mentioned to us that she was with Lot when he went out from the village, then she heard the sound, so she looked back, and a stone was sent upon her which destroyed her. Her location is known, separate from the people.
His saying, the Exalted: “Indeed, what strikes them will strike her.”
11089 - Yahya ibn 'Abdak al-Qazwini told us, al-Muqri' and Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah told us, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Jundub ibn 'Abd Allah, from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, he said: Gabriel asked for permission regarding their destruction, and he was granted permission. So he lifted up the land upon which they were, and he swooped down with it until the inhabitants of the lowest heaven heard the barking of their dogs. He kindled a fire beneath them, then he overturned it upon them. His wife heard the crash while she was with them, so she looked back, and the punishment struck her, and it followed their stragglers with stones.
11090 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, Zunayj told us, Jarir told us, from Ya'qub, from Ja'far, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr: When they came to the people of Lot, they mentioned what they wanted. His people said: “People have come to you, the likes of whom you have never seen at all.” He said: So some of them went to assault them, and some of the angels said with his hand or his wing, and obliterated their eyes. They said: “We have been bewitched.” They said: “We have come for the destruction of the people of Lot.” They said to Lot: “Depart.” So he departed with his family. When they reached the morning, they heard the crash, and his wife said: “O my people!” Then a stone struck her and killed her.
His saying, the Exalted: “The morning; is not the morning near?”
11091 - My father told us, Musa ibn Isma'il told us, Hammad ibn Salamah told us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Bashir al-Ansari, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “People had warned the people of Lot, then the angels came to them in the evening and said: ‘Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord; they will never reach you.’ He said: ‘Messengers of my Lord?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ Lot said: ‘Then now, therefore [i.e., let the destruction happen].’ Gabriel said: ‘Indeed, their appointed time is the morning; is not the morning near?’”
11092 - Yahya ibn 'Abdak al-Qazwini told us, Muhammad ibn Sa'id ibn Sabiq told us, 'Amr ibn Abi Qays told us, from al-Aswad ibn Qays, from Jundub ibn Sufyan, he said: An angel went out from the angels and said: “Be blind!” Until when they reached the morning, he carried their land upon his wing and proceeded with it, then he overturned it.
