Translation · EN

His saying, the Exalted: "And I do not intend to differ from you in that which I forbid you."

11145 - Yahya ibn Abi Talib told us, 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Ata' told us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah, from 'Azrah, from al-Hasan al-'Adani, from Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, from Masruq, that a woman came to Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, and said: "Do you forbid the hair-extender (al-wasilah)?" He said: "Yes." The woman said: "Perhaps it is among some of your wives?" He said: "Then you have not heeded the counsel of the righteous servant: 'And I do not intend to differ from you in that which I forbid you.'"

11146 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "And I do not intend to differ from you in that which I forbid you," he says: I would not forbid you from a matter and then perform it myself.

His saying, the Exalted: "I only intend reform as much as I am able," the verse.

11147 - It was mentioned from 'Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah, Jarir told us, from Abu Sulayman al-Dabbi, he said: The letters of 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz used to reach us in Khurasan containing commands and prohibitions, and at the end of them it was written: "And I have not been in that except as the righteous servant said: 'And my success is not but through Allah. Upon Him I have relied, and to Him I return.'"

His saying, the Exalted: "And to Him I return."

[The First Aspect]

11148 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding his saying: "And to Him I return," he said: To Him I return.

The Second Aspect:

11149 - Ahmad ibn Sinan told us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, from 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak, from Yahya ibn Hassan, from 'Ubayd ibn Ya'la, he said: "Al-inabah" (returning) is supplication.

His saying, the Exalted: "And O my people, let not my opposition lead you into..."

11150 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani told us, Abu al-Jamahir told us, Sa'id ibn Bishr told us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "Let not my opposition lead you into," meaning: Let it not incite you."
