His saying, the Exalted: "And ask forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him," up to His saying: "...loving."
11158 - My father told us, 'Isa ibn Ja'far, the judge of al-Rayy, told us, Sufyan told us regarding His saying: "Indeed, my Lord is Merciful, Loving," [means] "Responsive."
His saying, the Exalted: "They said, 'O Shu'ayb, we do not understand much of what you say.'"
11159 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad told us, Mihran told us, from Sufyan: "We do not understand much of what you say," [means]: "We do not know [it]."
His saying, the Exalted: "And indeed, we see you within us as weak."
[The first interpretation]
11160 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Yazid ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz told us, 'Abbad told us, from Sharik, from Salim, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And indeed, we see you within us as weak," he said: "He was visually impaired."
11161 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Ata' al-Nakha'i told us, Sharik told us, from Salim, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, [regarding] His saying: "And indeed, we see you within us as weak," he said: "He was blind."
11162 - My father told us, al-Fadl ibn Dukayn told us, Sufyan told us: "And indeed, we see you within us as weak," he said: "He was weak, and it used to be said: 'The orator of the Prophets.'"
The second interpretation:
11163 - My father told us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman told us, a man told us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And indeed, we see you within us as weak," he said: "You are alone."
The third interpretation:
11164 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq regarding His saying: "And indeed, we see you within us as weak," he said: "Humiliated." He said: "They said to him: 'Your clan is not upon your religion, so you are humiliated and weak.'"
His saying, the Exalted: "And if not for your kindred, we would have stoned you."
11165 - And through the same chain, from Abu Rawq: "And if not for your kindred, we would have stoned you," meaning: "If not for your clan whom we respect among them, we would have stoned you."
