11166 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi reported to me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding God's saying: "And if not for your kindred, we would have stoned you," he said: "If not for your people and your kindred, we would have stoned you."

11167 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq regarding His saying: "We would have stoned you," meaning: "We would have insulted you, harmed you, and done [such and such] to you."

His saying, the Exalted: "He said, 'O my people, is my kindred more dear to you than God?'"

11168 - And through the same chain, from Abu Rawq, he said: "'O my people, is my kindred more dear to you than God?'" He says: "Is my clan more dear to you than God?"

11169 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd reported to me in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my paternal uncle told me, my father told me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "'O my people, is my kindred more dear to you than God? And you have put Him behind your backs [neglectedly].'" This is because the people of Shu'ayb and his kindred were more dear to them than God, and the affair of God became insignificant to them—may our Lord be glorified and exalted.

His saying, the Exalted: "And you have put Him behind your backs [neglectedly]."

11170 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan told us, Ja'far ibn 'Awn told us, Sufyan told us, from Jabir, from Mujahid regarding "And you have put Him behind your backs [neglectedly]," he said: "You have cast His command aside."

11171 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "And you have put Him behind your backs [neglectedly]," he says: "It was decreed."

11172 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding his saying: "Neglectedly," [referring to] the kindred of Shu'ayb; they placed God behind their backs."

11173 - My father Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "And you have put Him behind your backs [neglectedly]," he says: "You honored your people and disregarded your Lord: 'Indeed, my Lord is encompassing of what you do.'"

11174 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah: "And you have put Him behind your backs [neglectedly]," meaning: "You do not fear Him."
